Gladys, I suspect if you dig up the plant you will find rotten roots. The cold, wet period in March probably did it. It was fortunate you took the cutting when you did. I had a plant that was damaged by cold that did the same thing. It looked OK, but wasn't growing/waking in the spring. When I cut it back, the center of the stalk was hollow and brown. The stalk was firm, but it was obvious the center was not alive anymore. Mike

Hi, I've also experienced stem burn from pea gravel I used to help secure cuttings in a pot. One grower in Florida told me that the burnt portion can go below the soil line and that it shouldn't hurt the growth of the plant. If you should decide to cut your cutting, I'd use a sharp knife. It makes a clean cut. I've found that scissors or shears seem to smash the cutting as it is being cut. I'd start just at the damaged area and make small cuts until I get to a good , white section of the stem (the stem generally is fleshy and not hard. It should be easy to cut). Let the cut end dry out for a few days and then pot it up again. Hopefully, you will not have to do this as you will end up with a very short cutting. I agree with Kasie. It probably suffered some tip damage in that cold snap. A plant that is dormant can sustain a cold snap better, but one that is just coming out of dormancy is tender and is more susceptible to cold damage. You can leave it alone and let it dry on its own, or you can cut the tip. If you cut the tip, based on where the leaf nodes are you can determine how you want it to branch. Either way, you will not have leaves for a while because the plant has to push out branches and that may take a while. I would let the plant dry out between waterings, Without leaves it has no real need for water other than to keep it hydrated. Once the branches break out and leaves start to form, you can resume watering it regualarly. I have had this happen to me several times, but mostly with plants that are stored in the greenhouse during the winter. At least, you did not loose the plant. It just set the blooming back.

Glad they are helpful. I did not have any coir and I always use potting soil mixed with a lot of perlite for rooting plumeria, so I kept to that. I opened a new bag of potting soil and that had all the moisture needed. I did not add any water at all. I read this tip about usung a newly opened bag of soil somewhere. It works because I can see the droplets of moisture in my baggies. Another tip I read was to keep the ziplock of the baggie sealed and cut one of the perpendicular edges off, and open the baggie to plant by that cut edge. This way the baggie will fall off when you remove the tape, without disturbing any roots.
