Hope someone will come in soon for advise. With Black on the plants, would wonder if there is too much fertilizer burning it, may have burned the mixture, needs to leech out the mix.. my thought

I'm glad someone finally answered. lol It can't be fertilizer. It started before I had given it any. I keep pinching off the affected foliage but it keeps returning. It's only those two branches. Not every leaf turns black but I'd say at least half the new leaves are affected.

I am no expert but wonder if this could be something that resembles your plant Karyn. Check the link below.I have been growing plumies for 6 years. Mine stay outside year round and they are about 6 feet tall. I am expecting blooms anytime now. Maybe someone who has had the same problem as yours will soon reply to this post. Karyn- I have had this happen in the early spring on new leaves and I just cut the black off and the plant was fine after the heat arrived. It seems to occur when you go from hot to cool/moist and it may be related to black tip but it always went away in my cases. Best I know. Bill

I purchased a plumeria while in Hawaii. It appears to be a stem or branch. The instructions said to plant it in a pot that drains with 1 to 3 inches of gravel in the bottom. Then put equal parts of sand and topsoil. Before I got a chance to plant it my kid broke it. Is there anything I can do to save it? I was told to plnt it right away and wrap it in wet newspaper. It that the correct thing to do?

No. Let both pieces dry for about 5 days, then plant. water once only and put on hot concrete and forget about it until leave show up. Your soil leaves much to be desired. Search this site for soil ideas and for planting methods.

Thanks all. It was odd because the tips look fine and the black areas showed up after the leaf had completely unfurled. Bill those are just the conditions we've been getting and since that one was in the GH it was experiencing dramatic swings in temp from day to night along with a lot of condensation. I've been snipping off the affected leaves, just leaving the stems to drop on their own. Hopefully we'll get some consistant heat soon. We're back into the 60's with more rain!!!!

I was hoping there was something I could do to save it. I did some reading and found out that cactus soil and perilte are great for plumerias. I also saw something about dipping it in a root hormone. I am going to do all of that after it dries out for five days. tdogdad you are awesome. Thanks a million. When to fertilize it still confuses me though. When should I fertilize it in the beginning and how often should I do it once it is rooted?

If I read correctly you are starting a new plumeria? Is so or are you starting a new plant? no fertilizer.

Like Karen said, new cutting no fertilizer until leaves are at least 6" long which is at least a month and often several. Water once with superthrive and or B-1 and water if you have it or soak the cutting overnight in this solution and then dip in rooting powder and plant about 3" deep.Water with the remaining solution. Use cut pieces of styrofoam between the pot walls on opposite sides of the cutting to the cutting to hold in place as the new roots are very easy to break off by bumping, wind, or sometimes just the weight of the cutting. Put on hot concrete and go to Siberia (in other words leave it alone.) Karen can tell you this as when she first started she was the big mother hen- poking, re-potting, messing- she finally learned to be patient and now she has a yard filled with happy plants. Trust me- less is more. Bill

Ok, I think I got it. I will mix cactus soil and perlite for the soil solution. I will take the stem and soak it overnight in a solution of superthrive, B-1, and water. I will then take it out of the solution, dip it in rooting powder, and put it 3" into the soil solution. Water the soil once, set it in the sun on hot concrete and leave it alone, let it be, admire from afar....got it. I will keep you posted on how it turns out.
