Queen Palm indoors?
Comments (15)Hi What you'd be doing is applying Bonsai techniques to a palm Bonsai people will tell tou it can't be done. I would agree with that but I think with the proper culture starvation it could be maintaineed for many years Not as a Bonsai but as a immature dwarf. I've kept an areca for many years in a pot.It did not die but has remained in an immature state. In 15 gallon pot it has renained under 6 feet. I did no root pruning but limit the nitrogen. I've got some royal palm seedlings coming along that are just now starting to form a trunk after 3 years. The tap root has been pruned twice removing 50 percent each time. Going to wait until next spring to individually pot them up. Going to use several methods or restriction. The goal is to mature at under 10 feet smaller if possible. Death does not seem inevitable as I was told. But i do suspect i'll end up with permanently immature palms gary...See MoreQueen Palm...Distance from wall?
Comments (1)Hi Can only give you my own experience in a different zone. While I find they will grow next to almost anything they don't root as firmly. Much more susceptible to strong winds.. Another problem with Queens is that they hold the dead frond almost forever. lol Much easier if you have access all around. You'll need a ladder long before they mature. Amost always a bad idea to plant something to close to a structure though with palms I've not found the roots damaging . Since they are a single trunk will certainly result in a better looking mature palm.IMO gary...See MoreCan't find an answer!
Comments (4)Back your spam self on out of these forums, sleeves. It's against garden web policy. Sweetrain, Most materials exposed to the elements have problems due to breakdowns from u.v. rays, temperature changes, heavy rains, icings, etc. Your best bet is to contact the manufacturer and get their take on it, though I also believe geographical location has a lot to do with how materials hold up. Some will do better in areas where it might not do as well somewhere else. We put a "newer" type underlayment on our build on the roof as we had to leave it for the winter and it wasn't ready for the roofing. It was claimed to hang in there for 6 months but failed miserably, leaving us a wet house when we returned in the spring. Looking back I simply would have used good old fashioned 30# felt, removed that,(due to wrinkling), when the time came to put on the roof with new underlayment. It's something to consider for you to simply use felt (with cap nails), for now and when it comes time to side, install the foam panels then....See MoreWoke up to a Leaning Queen Palm
Comments (6)Has a perfect tropical arch look. As too why? I would guess that its sort of lifted itself out of the ground- you can see the base is not touching mother earth. Then, a wind tilted it. I dont know the cause or why palms do that. I have that with mine with one of the Howea's and a large King palm. The Howea actually rocked a bit in windy weather. What I ended up doing was, using garden clay soil- as solid clay as I could find, and packed under the palm where needed as best I could. It worked. No more palm shaking in the wind....See Moregregsytch
