I have a spring horse we bought for my son (he's now 44) and I have it cut in half lengthwise, with the intention of having the two halves face each other, mounted on my board fence. I intend to fill the cavity with spray foam insulation, so there's no place for hornets to nest. What kind of paint should I use? Is there a primer that I should use? This horse is hard plastic and has been through a raft of children and still looks pretty good, so I'd say it's sturdy. My house is federal blue with yellow trim, so I want to have one horse blue with yellow and the other yellow with blue. Does that sound dumb? So far, this is just in the planning stages, and I don't find anything else in the Garden Junk forum exactly like what I've got in mind. I'd love suggestions....

Juellie, yes my son knits, crochets and quilts. I taught him how to knit and crochet while he was in law school and visiting here at home during breaks, and he picked it up fast. He lives on the east coast and we live on the west coast, so he likes to while away the long flights with knitting, etc. He would meet with friends in a New York City coffee shop on Friday afternoons during his law school years to sip, chat and do needlework. He took classes in woodworking and quilting once he graduated, but he really does not have the time for such crafts with his long work hours and weeks these days. The young man who owns the table cloth, which I remodeled to fit his table, was a fellow classmate in law school and a friend of one of my son's good friends. The kid was looking for a resource, and since he knew my son could crochet, asked if he could finish and repair the cloth. I felt sorry for him. He was the only one in his family not tied down with children and career, so he was designated to go through his mother's things, save or dispose of them accordingly, and close up the house, all this while in law school. I lost my mother when I was 12, and so I felt a certain sympathy for him in his simple request to get her crocheted tablecloth repaired and remodeled so that he could use it. While I have crocheted a few tablecloths, I have never done anything like this, and I took longer than I should have because I was so afraid of ruining her work. Her stitches were tiny; the knots she used to tie off each motif impossible to locate and undo; the old, delicate cotton thread broke easily when I unraveled it; and I was overwhelmed with what I found myself volunteering to do. But it all worked out after years of worry and struggle, and so I am content.

Ah francy, francy.....that's mighty fancy! LOL. I leave the computer for a while and come back and lord love me you finished your apron! I LOVE your pictures....seeing the project makes this forum so much fun. Your sewing area looks very very familar...like my own... threads and "snippits" all over the table, across the floor to the ironing board and back, never mind those I wear on my clothing when I sew. This apron makes me think you should grab some of those scraps, tie them loosely in your hair with a big knot to the front, don that apron and be standing at your lovely stove banging a wooden spoon in a pot when DH arrives home tonight....You could be standing there ala Lucy....saying things like "Now look Ethel, Ricky won't believe me for a minute it took all day to make this thing..... and no housework done. I've got some serious 'splaining to do!"...... If I lived closer I could be your friend Ethel....what a duo we'd make! Now apron one is done.....get on with your "cherry" project! No wait, first go and BUY MORE fabric......only look at the price this time. Budster.

What a tease! Although, I must say, for you, this must be such a relief. I only have my cabinets, faucet, sink, fridge, range, oven, floor selected and I'm over the moon. I still have counters, sink, tile, DW, paint, and....to go. Whew...what a job!!! Really looking forward to the see your vision all come together.
