Full StoryWith recent warm winters, woolly adelgids have attacked a dozen valued hemlocks that had previously escaped infection. I plan to treat them with imidacloprid by soil application. Two applications of agricultural oil did not solve the problem.
To make less work than mixing up gallons of solution, carrying spray and equipment distances and drenching around the bases, I'm wondering if it would suffice to spread the appropriate amount of 75% water-soluble powder, and let the rain do the rest.
Other than taking a little longer to reach roots, is there any downside to this? Since the infection will likely spread to many more trees, and repeated applications may be required, anything that simplifies the job will be appreciated.
