Myth or reality? Hot peppers making sweet peppers taste hot...
Comments (11)A lot of cross pollination questions on the site right now. Most years, I grow a pepper patch of mixed sweet & hot peppers - with the two often directly adjacent - and have not observed any heat in the sweet peppers. I don't entirely discount the possibility that crossed seeds might possess some heat... but sweet peppers are not generally eaten without cleaning them. If there were such heat, I would expect to feel it or smell it during cleaning, which has not been the case....See Morehot peppers affect on sweet peppers
Comments (11)Ok, I did a reasonably thorough Google site search of the Hot Pepper Forum as suggested, and really only found what has been stated by TAMU and spiced_ham. Heat (capsaicinoids) cannot be produced anywhere in the current generation pepper, and particularly not in the seeds, by the cross pollinator. Virtually all other references to the contrary were categorized as 'old wives tales'. I found none that supported the 'tale' when told, though that doesn't necessarily mean they don't exist since I didn't search past 18 pages of results. June '05 (quote) Posted by opqdan z5 OH (My Page) on Wed, Jul 6, 05 at 11:39 The walls and placenta (white part seeds where seeds are attached) of a pepper are made of the same genetic material as the parent plant meaning that the heat level is unaffected by the pollinator. Only the seeds contain a mix of both parents, and if planted can possibly produce a different pepper. (end quote) May '06 (quote) Posted by opqdan z5 NE OH (My Page) on Tue, May 23, 06 at 16:54 Seeds produce no capsaicinoids (the stuff that make peppers hot). The only reason that they are hot is due to their close proximity to the placenta, they absorb some of the capsaicin. Capsaicin is produced in the placental tissue, usually concentrated where the ribs meet the wall. When people remove the seeds, they also tend to remove this material which leads to the false presumption that the seeds are the cause of the heat. The placental tissue only contains maternal tissue. The same as the pepper walls, etc. (end quote)...See MoreWhat is this means ? pale discoloration of hot pepper leaf

Comments (10)Model tag may be on back top/edge of the console. The tag may be upside down (or not) to be readable when looking over from front of the machine. Does it fill with the lid open? Check the temperature at the spray flume with an instant read kitchen food thermometer. If it doesn't fill with the lid open, wait until fill is finished then check the temperature of the water in the tub ... keeping in mind that there's some thermal loss of hot and warm water to the cooler mass of the machine. ATC works different ways on different machines. Some cycle the hot and cold separately to maintain an average reading of the target temperature ... i.e. hot runs for a bit, then cold, the hot again, etc. Others set on hot run the hot water, then turn on the cold at the same time (for a warm flow) to reduce the temp, then the cold turns off so it's just hot running again ... cycling that way to attain the desired average. For warm, hot and cold run together for a warm flow, then hot turns off for a full cold flow, then hot+cold again....See Moretetrazygia
