Little beetles eating the heck out of my Chinese Cabbage

My CHinese Cabbage and turnips are under attack. THe culprits are beetles, rather small- about an eighth of an inch long. They are a solid blackish/brown with a thin bit of bronze around the edge of the abdomen. Think a smaller Colorado potato beetle without the markings. They make holes all along the leaf surface, and there must be a few hundred out there right now. It's not a huge deal since I've been eating the cabbage anyway, but they're hard to wash out of the head.

Any ideas? I looked though my 'Natural Insect and Disease' book, but could find not picture that looked like them. Looked on some other books and couldn't locate anything either. I know they aren't flea beetles or cucumber beetles, because they're eliminating all the rest of my vegetables.
