My plants are now in God's hands

I spend the weekend re-planting my plumeria in the yard. It has never froze in March before in Rockport. I just knew it would be ok. It was in the 70's all week. This morning it was 31 degrees there. I just cannot believe this happened. We are going down again later this week, I am almost scared to go. Thank goodness I left the desert roses in the carport, I ran out of time. I did plant all the tomotoes, peppers, and herbs. Barbra

Oh my goodness Barbra. I really hope they are OK. this is been just a ridiculous winter. Saturday it was mid 50's. Today is it barely 20 with snow yesterday, tonights low of 6 and by this friday we will be back into the 60's. I may have lost all my onions but fortunately around here we dont plant Tomatoes until mid to late april.

Sorry if you end up with some damages. Hopefully it would only be a few tips.

If you guys and gals get the storm that we just had....WOW! Get ready for a bad one in your area. Last Thursday thru Saturday....over 5 inches of rain (a lot for us) and tons of wind. On Saturday afternoon, I witnessed from the top floor about 15 pieces of metal awning from a mobile home park go up in a full blown twister and was 3 times the size of our super tall palm trees. So 600-700 feet I am guessing. Then they came down landing in the water, homes, boats...you get the picture. They were roughly 8x2 feet in size....very scary. The 3 we saw that were located were all bent up from the crash. We are going to be in the high 70s now by the weekend....BIZARRO weather!....roxanne

NICE haul. You are well on your way to hosta heaven. Do you have a spot in the ground prepared? You've got alot of minis there. I plant my mini's together cuz they get lost in the big ones. How about a couple of trough gardens til you've got that ground prepared? I bet they would look great in a trough. If you did get'm at Foxfire...did you admire the big Grecian lace? I got myself one this year in Indy. I'm looking forward to a big plant like thiers. Have fun plantin. The mat is made by hydrofarm.I bought it on ebay from this seller : hydroponic_supplies4you.This is not intended as an ad there are many other sources.I have the space to keep the cuttings inside.First I laid the mat on the floor and covered it with aluminum foil.Potted the cuttings in 16oz plastic cups.I heated an old knife and put a hole in the bottom of my cups(pots).Planted the cuttings in 1/3 soil to 2/3 perlite and watered them in.I placed them on the mat and hung the shop light fixtures from the ceiling using plant hooks.I am using inexpensive grow lite bulbs from HD and W--mart.I have had them potted for a week now and will unpot one today to check moisture.Water seems to be the enemy of cuttings as they try to root.As for the cuttings I mentioned that are outside,some have been potted since spring.The others are 3-4foot cuttings so I have them outside.Our temps are in the 80's and we don't have much winter.I am disabled and the cups are an experiment.Large pots are very difficult for me to handle.So I am hoping to root them in these small containers.The pebbles are to hold the cutting and also absorb and radiate heat.I will gladly answer if you have any more questions.DJ a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank">

ROFL! Yes, it's normal for most indeterminates and several of the determinates. I frequently have trellised toms get more than 12' by end of July or August. At 5' tall, it's a challenge to harvest, but I rise to the occasion. ;-) I let them reach the top of the trellis and then cascade down the other side - much easier than pruning, IMO. Congrats on what's going to be a great harvest!

I very much dislike stainless steel. As an accent, it can work well, but I always feel like I'm entering some industrial factory when I run into kitchens whose major appliances are covered in stainless steel. In addition, having had a Cuisinart drip coffee maker for several years now, which is mostly stainless steel (hey, an accent!) it is impossible to get the smudges, fingerprints and whatever else off it. I keep waiting for the thing to die a natural death so I can buy a new one. I prefer black, white, or certain colors (but for colors other than black or white, as others have noted, matching up the appliances is near impossible). My current major appliances are white, and my fridge, which is about five years old, has that yellowing plastic handle for no good reason I can determine. It's been yellowing noticeably for at least two or maybe three years. No sunlight really gets into the room, and I've never cleaned the handle with bleach. I use Simple Green or Method on it. In my upcoming build, I am going with black major appliances. I've had a brand new black microwave for nearly a year now -- it seems to be easy to keep clean, and I plan for it to move with me. The previous one was white, and at age 25 years of service, it had itself gone notably yellow. It did have something of a plastic frame. (I got rid of it partly for that reason, but mostly because I figured after 25 years of service, who knew what it was leaking...) The main problem with paneling major appliances in my view is the added expense that I'd rather put elsewhere into my build. (edit due to adding clarity on old microwave...) Barbra, I bet most of them are just fine, with maybe a few tips damaged. I think it's more a matter of hours long exposure to 30 or below that gets them, and the ones in the ground will probably be okay root-wise.

plumerias can take 28F for a short period of time. At 31 F it should not even bother them. At most may be a few frozen tips but it will not kill the plants. Do not worry.

Your can kiss your tomatoes and peppers goodbye though. Those are very sensitive but easily replaceable. Good luck.

Thank you George, I really do feel better. I just figured that I will be happy if any of them survive. The wind chill was 17 to 25 degrees, 35mph. I am hoping that we get to go down this week, one of our wells broke they are coming to repair it. sometimes this week, and we need to be there.
Jen, I planted all in the ground, except Wildfire, and Broomstick., I needed to remove the dollar weed, so I just left them outside in their pots. Barbra .

Hi Barbra. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. I hope everything survives with as little damage as possible. We have had a terrible winter in western NY. It just feels like it will never end. My back pain has been through the roof and this has also been the worst winter for spider mites!

Please keep us posted! I also wanted to share with you that my Bill
Moragne is really taking off and the season hasn't even started! I bet it has put on over 6-8 inches of growth since last spring. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will bloom for me this year. I cannot wait to see the huge inflos!

I think they will be fine. A few might be unhappy but worst case is some dead "claws." As long as the tips don't fully seal over then there is very little risk of loosing any future blooms.

We went down this weekend, I think it was the longest trip of my life. Seemed like we would never get there. I just kept praying that I did not loose them all. I think Albert must have been looking over them, nothing was affected by the cold, not even the tomotoes and peppers. I just lost a lot of sleep, worrying. Barb
