Kentia not so slow (and more pics)

All i've ever read about the Kentia (Howea Forsteriana) is that they are painfully slow growing. For the first year in the ground, mine too was pretty slow. This year though, i've fertilized a lot and it has already put out two fronds and has two more on the way. Already one more than last year and it's only been actlively growing for three months (first frond this year opened in March).

And here are some shots of all of the smoke in our San Joaquin Valley. There are tons of fires burning throughout CA, and the air outside is really, REALLY bad. It smells like a campfire outside and it's been like this for the last week, and the end is not near, there are still plenty of fires going.

Some plants like the filtered sunlight though. Here are a Brugmansia "Frosty Pink" and a Tibouchina Urvilleana whose blooms are able to stay open all day instead of wilting by noon.
