all the Washy R's 4th leaves....

...are all strap leaves again, so guess I will have to wait a bit longer! (sound of rapidly tapping fingers) The new leaves are around 2inches now I guess and growing well as we are enjoying the dizzing heights of temps in the mid teens C this week as the sun has been seen and is actually shining!!

Meanwhile the Sabal M's are slllooooowwwllllyy growing, man they are slow compared to Washingtonias. Now down to 2 as seedling no3 gave up. None of the Butia C's or the Trachy F's have germinated though. On a brighter note but completly OT, I'm sure my BOP is pushing up a flower stalk for the very first time. Happy growing!

Hi Gill! Long time no talk. Sounds like they're doing great. Too bad about the pindo and trachy seeds. The trachy seeds I had this winter rotted. I think they need alot more warmth than I could give them to start germinating. So as always here are some pics of my largest washy. I threw in a few yard pics as well. I couldn't resist. I don't know if I've told everyone how much I love pictures. LOL!

You can barely see the newest frond coming up. It has two points so I think it will split!

The old leaves on my cavendish are burning but the new ones will be fine.

Sorry guys. I have a picture posting problem. I really cant help it.

Hi, I'm new to this forum but I just want to say I LOVE IT when people post pictures of their gardens! Its fun to see what everyone else is planting. I just got into the tropicalesque sytle of gardening last year and plan to do a lot more this year. So go ahead and post all the pictures you want!!! You should post some more when the bananas get big. Does your garden get full sun all day? I love the crotons, reminds me of Hawaii.

Wow Gill things are looking great! How have you been? We haven't talked in a while. Congratulations on your new grandson. I love his name BTW. I know what thats like to have an off schedule baby. Our first son Caleb was like that. About the robustas. Mine are doing fine. I have two in the ground and two in containers. My largest is one of the potted ones. Heres some pics along with some new pics of my garden today. You know I cant resist taking and posting more pics than I should. LOL! The bananas do not like the wind! Its just something I have to deal with at my location. I can have ripped leafs or not have bananas at all. I choose ripped leafs. More pics at the link below. Threeapples I haven't done anything yet. Just in the early stages of planning a remodel and only know I want white cabs and a whitish stone that isn't marble.Love it, but too afraid of the etching and staining. The Macabus is looking promising, but not sure I want something that linear. Will check out the crosscut. Never seen Danbury in person; yours looks beautiful. Gigi, what is your stone? Also love that and Shanghai's.

Dredging up an old thread because I just finished the first book, A Game of Thrones. I think the book blurb on Amazon also says these were loosely inspired by Ivanhoe as well. I can see that, and I love the intricacies of the political intrigues. Now I'm chomping at the bit to read the rest of them. Went down to the little bookstore in my office park and as luck would have it, only the first book was on the shelf (ordinarily, they have at least the first three, just not this week). Now I'm going to have to make a mad dash to my local B&N and hope they have at least the second and third books. I think I can wait until the 4th one comes out in paperback in September, but I really want to read the first three of these in succession. I think I've been ensnared!

Well that was a dud year for us! We didn't get to cookout (son got home too late and it was really wet. Didn't want to stand in muddy, wet grass) or see our neighborhood fireworks (low lying clouds. It was still foggy this morning until about 9AM). And I forgot the flag was out, so it got wet. Son couldn't get home because he's not driven a lot here (he's been living in east TN) and there was a wreck before the one and only bridge from the north side of town into the area where we live. Others knew how to backtrack to the interstate and cut way east and then go south. He didn't. I spent more than an hour trying to get him a route, and he kept trying them, to get across the bridge. He did find it by happenstance, but it was a long haul. Not our best year. Oh well. The key lime pie and peach ice cream are still being eaten and they turned out great! The limeade and cherry/lemonade were also good. I'm quite tempted to add some tequila to that limeade and have a margarita or two. Or use the overage peach puree from the ice cream to make bellinis. Tonight. He'll be out again and this time, I hope the traffic light is fixed. Doubt it. It was still out since before 6PM last night, even at 8:30AM this morning. They're working on it. Sigh

Hi there Jay, and welcome aboard to Tropic Lover. Not much to write about really so have just been lurking! With all these lovely exotic types you all seem to be growing I feel my efforts are lacking somewhat! What WAS I saying about the good weather....today it's all mist and drizzle. Jay, I also agree it's great to see pics, especially so for me as you are mainly all from the US etc, so different to the garden styles etc here in the UK, the more the better I say! Will post a few pics of our place, but it's not at it's best just yet...guess I will have to put a potted palm in a strategic place so as not to be completely OT?!
