How much diseased foliage should I trim off before planting?

Someone gave me a lovely blooming potted peony this past spring. However, I noticed that the leaves were spotted with a disease so I did not plant it in the ground because I didn't want it to spread to my other peonies. Instead, I've taken care of it in the pot all summer long. Now, here it fall and I'd like to plant it. Those spots are still on the leaves, of course. Here's my question. How much of that growth can I cut back? I need to get rid of those diseased leaves.
