Your favorite peonies
Comments (3)Weeper, I grow one fully double medium to dark pink peony that has no problem with drooping. This is Rozella. The stems are very strong and I have never seen a flower go down on the plant. The foliage is dark green and looks good in the garden for a long time. The plant is vase shaped and fits nicely into the landscape. I took the photo below several years ago. Leon Rozella(Reath, 1991)...See MoreWhat's Your Favorite Flower to Team With Cut Peonies?
Comments (8)Thanks for the advice! My baptisia is just starting to come up. I'll probably leave it in place, see how it does this summer. It's a pretty small clump so I might be better off just getting a 2nd and planting it in full sun. I actually did have a small clump in full sun a couple of years ago but it was in unimproved, clay soil with no shade at all. It was on a drip line but slowly faded away to nothing....this time I'll give it a spot with improved soil and more attention! I'll also post a pic of the Rocky Mtn blue penstemon when it blooms, you guys might like it, too. It's easy to wintersow and self seeds easily, a no-brainer for me! Added bonus, the deer don't seem to like any penstemons........See Morefavorite peonies?
Comments (14)Just jumping in and adding my two cents. I can not even begin to actually name my favorite. I really love Red Charm and Liza Lundy. I added sevearl this year and also can not wait to see them bloom. Here is a picture of a NOID red one that has been around for awhile and divided a few times. Love the Bomb types, but also love the single pale yellows. Will add a few more including a peony that was also given to me, do not know its name either....See MoreMy favorite peony now in bloom
Comments (17)I bought my first 'Festiva Maxima' as a bare-root perennial, probably from Costco, back in 2007 or so. I was still designing my garden beds at that point but I knew I wanted to add some that weren't pink. My brother planted lots of pink doubles--in straight rows in a 30 ft. square bed,--back in the 1980s. I redesigned all the garden beds, added new ones and made sure (after checking with my ND neighbor) it's easier to mow along a curved edge than a straight one. My ND neighbor informed me the day I moved here that HE would henceforth mow the lawn. It frosted him that my mother would never let him mow her grass--she paid to have it mowed. In any event, peonies always make me grin when they blooms. What's not to love?...See Morems_xeno
