What's Your Favorite Flower to Team With Cut Peonies?

I'm trying to find different flowers that bloom at the same time as peonies for floral arrangements. I have Mock Orange and Rocky Mountain Blue Penstemon now. Does anyone out there have other favorites that look really pretty with peonies? What's your favorite?

I have blue, white, & yellow baptisias that bloom about the same time as peonies & love the look. I have iris too, but I like the more delicate look of the baptisia with the peony. The baptisia is just behind the peony in this photo

I just noticed there was a peony forum. Saw yesterday that they were blooming nicely, they looked a little peachy, but they come out more pink in the photos. It appears they are shaded most of the day, northern exposure with neighboring trees on east and west, amazing they bloom so well, thought there might be some sun on them this am. I'm tempted to knock on the door sometime and ask the people who live there if they know what they are. I'm sure these have to be the same ones I did the color accent photo with. How can they be single then get so double like this? Different possibilities for that, I suppose. Am not making any headway on the red tree peony, went to look at the specimen in front of the cottage, and it's more light pink, bushy, and had finished blooming. They might be able to order some for me for next spring if I take the printout, said they get them bare root, maybe they can't get the same ones or they came from somewhere else after all. Asked at another nursery with my printout, and the lady who might know had just left for the day.

I just purchased sorbet about 3 hours ago! I was working at our local home show and took a tour around first and there was the lily and peony booth, I also bought a dahlia. I saw pics of sorbet in magazines and I think they are gorgeous. I bought one two days ago can't remember the name but it and its cousins were all marked $5.99 well, i went to pay for it and it was $17.00 and I said not today cuz i just had some cash. Well, she sold it to me for the $5.99!! It's royal purple with a yellow center. can't say it's my fave but I like it. I also have Sarah Bernhardt and a few others. one that is burgandy and so fragrant its over powering. It might be my fave cuz it was my first.

Alex, I have been using the 3-5-3 Bulbtone. For some reason, none of the places that sells bulbtone in my area carry the 4-10-6. I have not tried the 4-10-6 so I don't know how peonies like it. I apply fertilizer to my new plants, plants that are slow to establish, or plants that are transplanted or moved. I stop fertilizing some peonies that are too vigorous. This year I did not apply fertilizer to Mackinac Grand, Pink Luau, Nick Saylor, Nova, and many others. OMG, my Henry Bockstoce is a monster. They are getting too big too quickly for me. They are outgrowing their spaces! Also, too much nitrogen can weaken the stems. The best thing to do is a soil test to determine what your soil is deficient and what it has in surplus. Too much of anything is not healthy. If you don't do a soil test, then just apply fertilizer twice a year, once when the feeder roots start to develop, around end of August to Labor Day for my zone and in spring when the peonies start to grow.

Blooming Bulb had some decent prices, and the stock didn't look bad when I ordered in 2020(winter). So far out of 20 bulbs ordered, most have come back, I'm still holding out hope it's still to early for everything to be up. We shall see. Gilbert H Wild had decent prices, some buy one, get one. I didn't buy anything, well peonies. I've had hit and miss on the day lilies though so I'm hesitant on anything else. It's tough to buy peonies online because it can take so long to get an actual bloom. As long as you are at least happy it lived to the next year that can be good but it may still end up a wrong color or whatever.

RyseRyse, I wintersowed some blue bachelor buttons this year but they're still very small with no blooms, maybe next year.
Ngraham, the baptisia certainly does look beautiful with the peonies! I actually have a clump that's growing, it's in part shade and has never bloomed, this will be it's 3rd summer. Should I think about moving it to full sun? The Rocky Mountain blue penstemon actually has the deep blue, spiky flowers like the baptisia but grows rampantly here.

I have seen baptisia bloom beautifully in full sun, less prolifically in part shade. Mine is in the latter category, getting unobstructed sun only from noon on. Otherwise, the plants return healthy every year. If you have a full sun location for them, I'd say go for it.

I don't have any baptisia in part shade because the planting instructions said full sun. I have lots more sunny areas in my yard than shade, so that worked for me. If you do decide to move it, be sure to dig deep. Baptisia doesn't really like to be moved, but I've done it successfully. It does look pretty rough before it starts looking better.

Thanks for the advice! My baptisia is just starting to come up. I'll probably leave it in place, see how it does this summer. It's a pretty small clump so I might be better off just getting a 2nd and planting it in full sun. I actually did have a small clump in full sun a couple of years ago but it was in unimproved, clay soil with no shade at all. It was on a drip line but slowly faded away to nothing....this time I'll give it a spot with improved soil and more attention! I'll also post a pic of the Rocky Mtn blue penstemon when it blooms, you guys might like it, too. It's easy to wintersow and self seeds easily, a no-brainer for me! Added bonus, the deer don't seem to like any penstemons.....

I've liked them with iris - both bearded and siberian. That deep blue color is perfect with pale pink. Also Solomon's Seal, though more for the leaf than the flowers.
