Those aren't actually coconut palms, they are different fruiting palms that make fruit that has a somewhat similar taste to coconuts. The fruit doesn't look like coconut palms and neither do the palms themselves, but that doesn't mean they aren't any less beautiful though! I'm not familiar with the term Brazilian Wine Palm. I think you might be talking about a Jubaea chilensis (I know it as a Chiliean Wine Palm). They don't do well in Florida because they like cooler climates like those in the western US (or in Chile where they are native). They are VERY cold hardy though and also very beautiful! Quito coconut palms (Parajubaea cocoides) don't actually make fruit as far as I know but they look a lot like coconut palms which is what makes them very common for gardeners who want the tropical look but live in climates a bit too cool for coconut palms. Beccariophoenix alfredii is a palm really well known for being a "coconut look a like". It's only hardy into the mid to upper 20s so it's not significantly cold hardy, but it can handle cooler summers than coconut palms and those few degrees of cold tolerance make a big difference in climates that do get an occasional freeze every one in a while. You can even dig them up (making sure not to damage the roots) and move them if they become a real problem, but you might need a crane if you wait until they get large. But I think you still have about 2 full years before it starts to really block the path, and according to how much of a problem it becomes, you can either prune them, or move them. Good luck!

@HU-289797433 Siting is everything for these. You'll want to plant them in some sort of protected microclimate if you have one available. If you can provide overhead canopy and protection from wind coming from the north and the west it will increase your chances of success. Close to a heated building helps, especially if there is a lot of brick and/or concrete in the area. Ideally, a southeast facing alcove with some form of high overhead canopy that lets light in underneath is the best bet. If you want to cheat a little, wrap it with the old school Christmas lights (aka not LED) and keep the bulbs away from the plant tissue. Even with all of the protective factors in place, there are still times where you'll have to tie up the fronds and wrap at least the growth point to keep it alive. If you get one at a big box store, it will likely be some kind of Malayan Dwarf. If possible, get the Green Malayan Dwarf. If you seek out one of the special cultivars, keep in mind their strengths and weaknesses: Jamaican Tall/Atlantic Tall: Grows extremely fast with an almost spherical crown, tends to have a touch more cold tolerance (not always), but very susceptible to Lethal Yellowing and Lethal Bronzing and does not tolerate root disturbance very well. Panama Tall: One of my friends grows these and says that they tend to hold a few less fronds than the above with similar strengths. Tend to be slightly less susceptible to disease. Maypan: A hybrid between a Malayan Dwarf and a Panama Tall. Decent compromise with a little bit of a fuller crown than the Malayan Dwarf. The coconut on these palms is huge. Mine sprouted from a coconut larger than an NBA basketball. I recently had to do some digging near this one and it did not immediately go into decline when I trimmed a few roots, so it shouldn't be as intolerant of root disturbance as the Talls. Green Malayan Dwarf: Not a true dwarf - just slower growth than a Tall cultivar. Their crown tends to be more umbrella shaped and the trunk a little more straight up and down. A technician from Spectrum decided to take it upon themselves to trim half the roots on mine without me knowing and sent it into decline. It had one frond and a spear left. I fertilized with Florikan, covered the exposed healthy roots and gave it supplemental water. It regrew its crown. Much more tolerant of root disturbance than the Talls. Golden Malayan Dwarf: Similar to above but the petioles will be golden and the coconuts will be too for a period of time before they turn brown and fall. From my experience, these seem to be the least tolerant of cold out of all the common varieties. Fiji Dwarf: Some growers are experimenting with this cultivar. It is a true dwarf that I've not seen grow over 6 feet of trunk. Supposedly almost totally resistant to Lethal Yellowing. Because Lethal Bronzing is a similar disease, it might be resistant to this as well. The crown is very large, but this would be the easiest coconut cultivar to keep alive since a blanket or two would allow you to easily protect the growing point at maturity. Another advantage is that you don't have to worry about being sued because someone died from a falling coconut. The other cultivars carry this risk since they get very tall. At least the initial reports from folks who have this cultivar are that it didn't take an inordinate amount of cold damage compared to the others. The coconut on I-Drive looks to be a Tall of some kind and has a lot of concrete and running cars around it at all times. If you provide your palm with the appropriate care, you will be successful. Rocky is a big puppy to people he knows,or if your with me,he thinks he's a lap dog.Brutis is not as friendly to strangers,that's why he's on a logging chain.He has never bit anybody,I dont let but a few people near him.He is my guard dog,about a month ago two guys was trying to steal the copper from my central air unit and they dident know brutis could reach up to the units.It was about 3am when I heard the dogs barking,and I can tell when there barking at a person or some animal,the barks different.When I went outside to see what was going on,brutis had the two guys pinned in the corner of the fence.He dident try to bite them but he wouldent let them move.He sat there holding them in the corner,if one moved he would growl and they stoped moving.I called the cops and they came out and locked the two guys up.The cops told me,now that's a good guard dog.Some of the cops now want a pup of his,they were scared of brutis,they said that dog has strange eyes,they look straight through you.Brutis is a very smart dog,he knows about 10 commands.I run all my dogs 5 miles a day on a dog treadmill.They love it,the vet said my dogs were very healthy and happy dogs.Times have gotten so bad people will still anything they can get there hands on to make money.It's been going on far a long time in Atlanta,there stilling manhole covers from the streets,stilling from churches.They showed on the news where somebody had stolen all the central air units from a apartment complex.There is a small palm nursery in the next town over that I go to often.Last time I was there billy(the owner) told me someone stold three 25 gallon pindo palms during the night.He knows I sell pitbull puppies,and now he wants one of my dogs.I might trade for another big palm,I love the barter system.Your so right about keeping Uncle Sam out of the picture,they tax me to death already.I have to register my dogs with the city,but not the puppies :)
