how do i tell male guineas?

that pretty much says what i need to know-how do i tell male from female guineas? been told male--female--says putt-rack, seems no one can agree on which. been told males wattles flare backwards, can anyone tell me a fool proof way? i've got one that is soo mean(to the chickens)and 3 others, so-if i have 2 males, the onery one is finding another farm.they were hatched about may first.

'helmet' and wattles are supposedly larger on adult males than females, but I've seen contradictory info on which sex has 'straight-hanging' vs 'curled/flared' wattles.
The hens give the two-syllable 'buck-wheat' call, but males can only make the one-syllable call.

Hi Anna; If you visit the Ohio Lepidopterist site, they have surveys for each of the counties of butterflies. I checked and pipevines have been recorded as far as Ashtabula County, and are in Wayne Co. So, there may be resident populations somewhere near you. You can look for your particular county there. You live in a very unique part of the world. I am not sure how it will do for you. Ideally they should survive for you. Could you plant them on an eastern side of your garden. These plant come from a climate similar to yours but do like it a little cooler.

Well I just keep watching them this morning and they are both fliting all over down there, wing waving like crazy. The momma did finally figure out the mealworm feeder this morning. I have it clamped on a small 3 step stepladder and this morning I took it off and just put the dish on the stepladder and she ate out of there. Then I put the feeder back onto the ladder and put the dish in it and left. She flew to it and then away but later I saw her go into it. Yeah! I am going to check the nest today and see what if anything is up in there as I haven't checked it since Friday. I am still not convinced that this is the original male but then maybe I am just overreacting to things. Donna
