Local Sweet Potato Slips!

K and K nursery on Sooner Rd! Wow, that is a cool place! I sure will be going there more! Its just north of Indian Hills...well, maybe a block or so...on the East side.

O M G....several of us in this area have proclaimed their wonder!!! But yea!!! I haven't been there in a couple of weeks so I'm so grateful for this info! Our attempts at growing our own have been less that desired. Do you know if they are the Beauregard slips? Those are the ones that do best here. I'll be checking them out tomorrow! Thanks for the "heads up" on this one! K&K is a wonderful source for us in this area. I think they should give us OK GW peeps a discount! We bring them a LOT of business...and for good reason. They are a great business with great people and they have a wonderful stock that works for us around here. I almost always buy any seed I need from them because it's always fresh.

Every time I hear comments about K&K, it makes me want to do the equivalent of a "road trip" from my polar opposite location in the metro. Although I don't need SP slips, seeds or plants..... why should that stop me?!?

No one seems to have answers for you so I'll give you my thoughts. Container planting for veggies isn't one of my favs for suggestions, never had much success with that method other than possibly a small cherry tomato plant for minimum production. That being said, a max of one plant per 5 gal container is your best bet, I say this because later on when the pepper or sweet potato plant grow large it will keep you pretty busy watering the plants. Also black containers aren't the best color as they will get very hot in the summer sun and roast the roots on the inner wall, so it's best to shade the container portion. And 25 gal containers? would not like to move those when the time comes. Sorry for the dismal report, just too used to planting veggies in the ground where moisture, temperature, and daily attendance is less cumbersome (though weeding part is easier). Good luck!

They had 2 kinds...Georgia and a "white type". I think going there would be worth a roadtrip!

We got the last 3 bundles of Beauregard and one of the Georgia Goliath. DH said they still had plenty of the Goliath left.

SO! If we all get together for a Fall Tasting Fest - looks like I will be bringing a sweet potatoe dish! We may have over 80 plants.
