I've has my callas and asiatics getting about 4 inches high, and they were pale. I brought them in the house so at least they would have a window to help them photosynthesize so they wouldn't fail on me. I always worry that their growth will stunt if not given optimal conditions as soon as they break the soil. My glads are comming up, too. I almost did the same thing. If you planted them 4 to 6 inches deep, they should be all right unless it remains in the 30 degree temp for a few days. Nothing I can think of you doing. I am sure they will be all right. I do have a few in and am more worried about the rain.

Hi Beacivil! Nice name :-) I'd be glad to share a few notes about rose care. Basically roses like a lot of food and water if they are to bloom well. Privately owned nurseries carry organic fertilizers such as 'Roseglo' which will have directions on the package. Roses don't care whether they are pruned or not, but we prune them to keep the size in bounds and in the case of hybrid tea roses so they'll have larger blooms. In this part of the country we prune around mid Feb.. If your roses are huge you can still prune them back a third or so just to shape them and keep them from hanging over sidewalks and such, but it may delay blooming a few weeks. If your roses are hybrid teas they may get a foliage disease called black spot. There isn't much you can do about it except spray anti fungal chemicals which many of us don't want to do we we've switched to growing shrub and old tea and China roses which are generally more resistant to leaf problems. If it's any consolation, I did something very similar -- heard about the horrid backorder and convinced the local guy to sell me his biscuit floor sample, then very carefully matched the cabinet color (soft cream by Showplace) to the sink, then ordered a faucet with white-white handles and realized I just couldn't have that biscuit sink right next to the white faucet handles. After days of agonizing, decided to swap the sink for a white one. Because the cream cabinets are on the island and the sink is on the perimeter, I'm not as crazed as I would be staring at a mis-matched sink and faucet. I'm pretty picky about mixing white and off-white, so my opinion is: (a) you can mix two adjacent items if they're not intended to match; (b) you can mix lots of white-ish shades together as long as you have lots (or at least 3) different shades; (c) mismatched shades are easier with country style decor and harder with sleek modern.
