I had to move fothergilla 3 times before I found a spot it was happy in. Don't give up on this lovely shrub. When it is in a spot it likes it will reward you with lovely flowers.

What is its favorite type spot. I had one that didn't get any bigger. In summer I can't water everything. I am sure mine wanted more water in July and August.

hmmmm - Your Mt. Airy flowers look brighter than mine.
I planted one in full sun (at the time), unimproved soil, and it's been a slow grower for me but I like it. It gets some shade now from the shrubs around it. The flowers on mine are creamy white and look somewhat dull (almost yellowish) compared to some bright white candytuft nearby that flowers at the same time. I shouldn't have planted them close together. I guess I could move the candytuft. I've noticed that the side that faces the sun on the south gets better fall color.

Your cherry tree is beautiful! My daughter has been bugging me to plant a flowering cherry.

Lala - And about the tree, my neighbor wasn't home last night. He's a single man whose job takes him out of town a lot. The limb is mostly on his property. I'm going to cut off a couple of the big branches lying in my yard and drag them to where the rest of the limb is. Whoever removes the debris will have to take it out through his yard then. It's far enough back that it shouldn't hurt my daylilies. Thanks for your concern. Debra

Glenda I did have a pie cherry for years. It was a natural dwarf. It got borers too but lived for years so was worth having. I wondered if the ornamental ones needed spraying and care like fruit trees. My flowering crab blooms so briefly but it takes absolutely no care and I can look forward to its blooms every year. Three classmates and I visited last week. The one that has Rheumatoid Arthritis is eating black cherries and vegetables and watching her diet. She says she no longer has to take some of the strong medicine. I don't have RA but know someone who does. I love when Wal-Mart has those dark sweet cherries a certain time of the year, but I think another pie cherry would be my only choice. I may get two as you said for pollination.

Glenda there are daffodils in pots at Wal-mart and Lowe's and garden centers now. That is the most expensive way to buy them unless you wait until after they bloom when they put them on sale. Lowe's had some pink ones that I am watching. After they finish, I'm going to try to pick some up. If I knew the variety, I would order them in the fall because the cup is close to being pink. They are just labeled pink so no clue on the variety. Puffy was being friendly so I took his picture. I adopted 3 young cats a couple of years ago. They were born in a shed. Neighbors were feeding them but didn't claim them and wanted me to take them. I still have 2 or the three. Spanky comes in the house sometimes but Puffy is still a little afraid. He rubs on me but is stiff when I pick him up. He is a hunter.

So pretty! I've given up on planting tulips. I have a raised bed in front of my porch that I filled with tulips one year. I was standing on my porch looking down at them and one disappeared before my eyes, leaves and all. Something pulled it down from underneath and all that was left was a hole. I couldn't believe it. I had planted about two dozen in the bed and only a couple lived to bloom. I haven't planted tulips since. Does the pine bark keep the critters away? Helen - You're hyacinths are really pretty. I just have wood hyacinths and have never tried the ones like you have.
