Do Peas Leave Nitrogen Behind in Soil?

susanlynne48

After my Peas bite the dust - which is probably very imminent, should I pull the plants or just cut them down at soil level?

I was wondering about the nitrogen fixing nodules and whether or not leaving them in the soil will continue to provide nitrogen for a certain period of time. Or, if I should just pull them roots and all. I will plant something else in their place - what I don't know yet, but thinking about a dwarf cuke, if not too late for that (I'm thinking Tabouli with cukes and tomatoes, yummmmmmm). Also, I will add some P-K to the soil at planting time cuz my brain tells me cukes will not do well on nitrogen alone, producing lots of foliage and no fruits.

So, can y'all help me out here?

Susan
