Suggestions on tree to replace old willow

Hi everyone, I am needing some suggestions on what to do about a problem. The problem: On the west side of my driveway, I have a large weeping willow that is 20 years old. I love the looks of willows but hate the mess. I have been thinking of cutting it down, but really really hate losing the shade. So my choices are: 1) Cut it down and replant another tree in its spot. And wait a few years for shade again. 2) Trim it back hard with the hopes that the new stuff that sprouts will not create as big a mess. 3) Plant another tree a few feet to the south of the existing willow and hope it can compete with the willow. What would you do and if replanting, what would you choose? I'd love a tree that grows fairly quickly but do not want silver maples.
