Helen you made me curious so I read this Guinea thread in the Ok forum. I think this is the one you mean. Very entertaining. We've never had guineas but I've seen them recommended a lot for ticks.
I havent't read it--but I love my 2 guinea BOYS! I had a pair, plus one male the first year, but after she started laying, I lost her. One male get's on top of the barn to see a car go by, if it turns in, he lets us know. And if we have company, he get's back up there to check them out.And heaven forbid the stranger that goes into my garden. One night, we came home late--he was out talking to the horses--after dark!-then ran to the chicken house to be shut in. They sing to themselves, more than anything--kind of a low, fine note.
Aww, Gldno, you sound like my husband used to--till I made a believer out of him. Now, when I work in the garden (it shared a south fence with the chicken yard)the Guineas sit on the other side, and sing--its a note about like someone whistling under their breath, very soothing. My 2 guineas and my chickens all live together--but they were raised together. The noise at Dorothys was because they were telling her about a stranger in their midst. Might not help any--but thats my take on Guineas--anyone else chime in? good or bad?
Guineas are two noisy for me. They never shut up and I never heard one sing only squawk. You couldn't go outside without them starting up. They are good watchdogs, as are peacocks, if you can stand the noise. My neighbor has a turkey that will gobble at anything. You cough - he gobbles, you yell "Stupid turkey!" - he gobbles. It drives me crazy. I like the peace and quiet and being able to hear the birds sing.
