Partly cloudy here, but clearing. Very low wind at this point. I do not necessarily expect a frost here, and we are not in the advisory area, but you know what my microclimate is like, so anything is possible. Realistically, I am expecting 38 or 39 and a light freeze here even though they are saying 44 for us.

Because I have been out slinging hash and drinks at the firegrounds all week long, I haven't planted one single thing, so there's nothing in the ground that I'm concerned about, and all the seedlings are in the garage and on the back porch where they should be fine.

Tomorrow, though, I am putting stuff into the ground. Next week we have two nights here forecast to go to 44-45, but I'll just cover up the veggie rows next week if I have to.

If I keep waiting for the one "perfect" day to plant, I'll never get it done. : )

Got a target date for plant move-out day?

They are saying 35-37 here. Not much it can hurt if it only drops a few degree lower than what they are saying. And after the last week not sure it will hurt much if it drops 8 degrees lower than predicted. The tender things have done turned black. I'm still waiting. Had some chain link fence I got gave to me to take down today and tomorrow which kept me from planting. Which is probably a good thing. Jay

With all the fires we've had baking the ground, maybe it will stay warm here.

I really am going to plant tomorrow...and I'd say "no matter what" but that would jinx me. I should warn everyone in Love County, though, because the minute I plant, we'll have either tornadoes or golfball-sized hail.

It dipped to 32 here about an hour ago. A hard frost for sure, but might not be freezing long enough to mean much.

Monday night looks iffy here. I'm wanting to get the exodus started, but won't do anything until I see the long range after Wednesday.

At about the same time it dipped down to 32 there (brrr!), it hit 39 here, but hardly stayed there any time at all. Very, very light and very patchy frost here and I doubt it hurt anything.

Monday night here is supposed to be 48 so planting is still a 'go' for me today. Yippee!

It is 36 here this morning and supposed to be 60 today. Then mid 40's tomorrow and 33 Sunday night. The lowest they show but that can change. Also saying something about "rain". Been so long had to look that up in the dictionary. Hopefully we will all get a good slow soaking.

So, are your cold nights close to ending or do you have a couple more weeks where freezing nights remain a possibility?

It is much better here, thank you. The firefighters cleared from our big fire around midnight last night, I think. They kept trying to clear and kept finding "one more" fire to put out, but when they cleared at midnight, I switched the radio over to the "pager" feature and stopped listening. I am not leaving the house or garden today unless something is on fire on my road. I am going to plant today, period. Someone else will have to feed the firefighters if they are out today.

I hope you get rain. I hope we do too. It OUGHT to rain hard and hail here tomorrow because I am planting tomato plants today and that always causes either a tornado, a hail storm or snow. That, of course, leaves me inside cringing and listening to hail pounding the roof and asking myself why I didn't wait another day or two until the threat of hail had passed. LOL Since snow seems remote at this point in time, we have to assume that the planting of somewhat tender tomato plants will only result in tornadoes, thunderstorms and hail for Love County this weekend.

I hate whining about the lack of rain, but we have only had about 3.7" or so this year and we usually get a lot of our rain in March, April and May. March wasn't too bad, but April has been dry. Our pond has been dry forever, and some of the creeks have been dry for 3 years except for a few days in the spring/summer of 2007 when they carried some rain runoff away....but it didn't stay in the creeks....it ran down to the Red River.

If it rains, I'll be deliriously happy. I just hope we get real rain and not thunderstorms that bring dry lightning strikes and high winds and little moisture.

OK, I need to get off the computer and out to the garden now to play in the dirt.
