It looks like 95-96 here Friday if they are correct and then cooler for several days. Hard to say for how long. Yesterday both that give long range were saying all next week. Now one has changed that and saying 100's again towards the end of the week. Hopefully it won't get that hot again. We were 102 yesterday. What has made it so bad here in the humidity. We aren't used to it. It is 71% here now. I think that is another thing that has hurt my pollination this summer. The odd part is I've had some greenies showing up in the last few days that would of been set during this high heat. Hard to explain. Hope everyone gets some relief from the heat and rain soon. It has rained around us almost every night. Where it rains it has been heavy but a mile a way will be dry. Jay

Jay, Our local forecasters have repeatedly referred to it as only a temporary break in the heat, so I haven't let myself get my hopes up too high. Even a break of a couple of days is better than no break at all.

We start out with high humidity in the early morning....I know the humidity was in the 90s early this morning, and then it drops. Sometimes it drops a lot. Sometimes it doesn't. Clearly I prefer for it to drop a lot since the heat index drops along with it. Right now the humidity is in the 40s, we're at 95 degrees and the heat index is 101. That's pretty hot for so early in the day.

I have greenies too that have set in the heat, including on JD's Special C-Tex, Indian Stripe, Pink Brandymaster and Yellow Brandymaster. Some things defy logic, but I bet they set on one of the lower humidity days. Our humidity has been all over the place this summer....very high on some days, very low on others, and then high sometimes in the morning and very low by mid-afternoon.

How many more days until fall? The answer is 'too many'.

Today has felt like the hottest day of the summer so far. The thermometer has been reading in the triple digits since late morning, and it is even hot in the shade. The wind feels like a hairdryer. We woke up this morning to no water and found out the well pump had gone out. Thankfully they were out to replace it shortly after lunch and I felt so sorry for those guys working out in that awful heat. I kept taking them cold bottled water, but I told them I wished I could turn on the hose and just hose them down! After they got the pump in, they discovered a leak so the job turned out to take even longer .... I really worried about them. I hope the break in the heat that's due on Sunday holds and this is the end of it for this summer. But I remember a few years ago, the first Saturday of September at OU's opening football game when it was 106 degrees at 6:00 pm at kickoff. Talk about miserable! They were carrying people out of the stadium on stretchers.

I agree that it felt like the hottest day of the year here too. We may have had days that, technically, went a degree or two higher or had a heat index that went higher, but this is the day the heat seemed to arrive the earliest, feel the worst and last the longest.

That must have been a miserable football game!

We have had two heat-related deaths that I know of in southcentral OK in the last week, having mostly avoiding that so far this summer, although some people have had heat exhaustion and/or heat stroke, but survived.

Our air conditioner ran all day long and the house still wasn't nearly as cool as usual, but I'm just glad the AC didn't melt or blow up or anything.

Tomorrow is forecast to be Marietta's hottest day of the year so far, both in terms of hight temperature and heat index. After that, we should see improvement here in a day or two. We'd better see improvement on Sat. or Sun. or I may start getting cranky.

There was a heat related death in Oklahoma City this week too, I think it was the first of the summer, and two others were hospitalized due to heat. The man who died was mowing. All of them were under 30. I don't like to wish time away, but it's hard not to wish that fall was already here!
