feeder roots in tomatoes

sammy zone 7 Tulsa

Roses have feeder roots near the soil, then the larger roses have huge anchor roots. The anchor roots do not really supply nutrients to the rose like the ones near the soil.

Do you know how a tomato feeds? I am emptying out about 1/3 of the soil in my pots, and replacing it with good soil. Do the tops feathery roots supply nutrients to the tomato like the roses do? Is that a way that plants perform?

Thanks for any answers to such a ridiculous question.

The next question is, if they pull nutrients from farther down, how do you supply those? Must it be done before you plant the tomato?
