But already over a metre and a half and has fruited already 2: How do you grow them? In the ground or in containers? In a greenhouse, indoors, out with or without supplemental lighting? If container grown what type of soil mix are you using? All in containers. Outside. Bring the younger in in the winter keep them in my back room which has big windows 3: What type of fertilizer do you use and why? Have you tired other types and found one that has proven to be more effective? Composted chook manure. Seasol. Potash. Trace minerals. A bit of epsom salts if needed 4: What about pest control? What type do you use and why? Try and let nature control it. Remove stuff with my hands and try plant things around the garden to attract beneficials. If things get really bad i will enlist the help of a homemade white oil spray. But thats just when I'm desperate as I worry about the beneficials. 5: Where did you buy your citrus trees? Please also supply the link if it was mail order and which state, please. Have you had any negative experiences in buying trees? Most of them are presents. But have bought some of the older ones from bunnings and from the sundays farmers markets. I've got a wishlist for some of the more unusual ones which I can only find online, but want to make sure my current ones make it through the summer first. 6: What were some of challenges you faced growing your citrus trees? How did you, if you did, correct the problem? Leaf miner. Scale. Ants. Getting enough water and protecting from sunburn in the hot summer. Getting feeding right and shaping properly. Besides the pest control. I put a shade cloth up when its going to be too hot. 7: Why was citrus a choice for you to grow? Was it the look of the tree or did you just like that type of fruit? I love citrus. Beautiful fragrant flowers. Zest. Fruit. Leaves (makrut) and pretty looking plant. 8: What other types of fruit trees do you grow and why? Fig. Tamarillo. A few native australian berry trees. Acerola. Fejoia. Peach. Apple. And a baby banana tree...we will see how we go with that. 9: Other then this forum what other venues or clubs have you enlisted for support? This forum. No clubs. No not yet. 11: Out of all your citrus trees which one do you love the most and why? That's a hard question. My tahitian lime is one of my oldest most prolific and i love limes. A lot of the others are a bit young yet. 12: What do you do with your harvest? Eat it, cook with it, and share it? Eat it. Cook with it and share it. I have a few friends that come for some of the makrut leaves. Hedge Apple trees have to be one of my least favorite trees to deal with. I have several extrememly large ones and I hate them. For one, the *hedge apple* is a large, VERY HEAVY fruit that gets scattered everywhere. They are a pain to pickup because there's a lot of them and they are heavy. Like a child's bowling ball. Once scattered, they rot all over the place. As far as I can tell, NOTHING eats them. They have been laying around in an opening down a path in the woods, and none have even a single bite removed. The trees are absolutely horrible to prune. There are spines everywhere, and when then jab you, they don't just pierce the skin. Like catfish spines, they seem to emit some kind of venom. I was pruning the largest one last weekend in spite of getting constantly jabbed and stung. That night I developed huge welts at the site of each jab -- and I do not have sensitive skin. The wood is as hard as granite when it gets old. It's super hard to prune and to even saw with a chainsaw. And while they don't get particularly tall, the canopy is of a very large diameter, and virtually no light penetrates. I'm trying to clear these horrid things out so I can plant some useful fruit trees, and it's been like clearing out a hornets' nest in shorts and a tank top. Oh, I'm equally lucky to have several huge honey locust trees in the area as well -- the kind which also have HUMONGOUS thorns. Both of these trees (hdgapples and h.locust) look nice while you're driving along the highway in the country looking out the window, but if you ever have to actually do anything to maintain them you'll discover what a pain the backside these functionless trees are -- at least that's my take on them. sweeby -- I'm assuming that people are usually looking at similar door styles and framing in different lines, like Shaker or raised panel, inset or full overlay or frameless. Most folks name the door style and line in a thread asking if the price is reasonable. Experienced GWers, especially the KDs who post here and carry some of the most popular lines, can be counted on to mention whether the named door style is in the higher or lower price category because that, along with drawer glides and closing mechanisms, seem to alter the price most. I am always surprised that more people don't ask which door styles in a line are more expensive and which less when they shop. Certainly the retailers know that information. I even have some sheets and notes on that for some of the cabinets I'm looking at (Omega and Dynasty sheets, for example). This is very helpful (although retailers can be reluctant to copy the sheet for you). Just because I think two doors are similar doesn't mean that the manufacturer prices them similarly. Sweeby, you've started a great list of what options can be pricey that consumers should watch for. I'm going to add them to the spreadsheet bethv and I are working on in another thread. But when it comes to a couple of sizes that everybody has, what comes to mind? Building contractor pricing books use standards, but they seem out of date to me. For example, the standard base is 24" with a drawer above and door below (sometimes with pullouts). Certainly those are standard in my 1936 kitchen. But in this forum people seem to be moving to wider all-drawer bases over doors. The drawer units are more expensive, possibly more in some lines than others. Are they? I haven't gotten that far yet. The easiest time to get a quote per cabinet is probably at the beginning, before the KD/orderer has invested a lot of time in designing a kitchen, so maybe this idea works best for the beginning of shopping. Somewhere in your order, though, the seller has a price per cabinet and then calculated upcharges for upgrades and additions like light rail. What the seller may not have calculated is a retail mark-up per cabinet, just a whole order mark-up, so asking for a price per cabinet at that point requires the seller to do a little more math. It also risks revealing how much those upgrades on sweeby's list may have added to the bottom line. There may be enough threads with whole kitchen orders here that if I review those it will become clear what cabinet sizes are most common to and in every kitchen.

I chose my fruit trees for fruit that is neither sweet of sour. My favorite Apple is the Arkansas Blacking. Not sweet, not tart, but packed with flavors that I have no words but that I like them. I had a mill sweet lemon. Same as above. I now have a New Zealand lemonade tree from pip that should fill the plate very nicely. I have 14 seed grown red haven peach trees. I like to pick the peaches when they have color but are hard. Nothing beets a crisp crunchy mildly sweet free stone peach. My hardy Chicago fig has been a real success beyond my wildest expectations. They taste very good with their mildly sweet flavor. I don't eat snickers or any other candy or pop. the juice of the lemon will dissolve the enamel off your teeth faster than a snickers bar will. Here on the garden web's snickers forum every one seems to be buying the trees that produce the sweetest mandarins/oranges or the most acid lemons/lines. My portfolio is complete with 2 Fukushu, 1 Meiwa, 2 New Zealand lemonade, and 9 Hardy Chicago fruit trees. Tine to lean back and kick up my feet. The fukushu fruits can be squeezed for baking Fukushu meringue pies and the remaining peal and flesh should prove to be mildly sweet.
