Will cedar apple rust ruin my newly planted crabapple trees?

Ugh. I just planted 3 flowering crabapple trees in my backyard, roughly 2-3 weeks ago. Gorgeous trees.

We have an old, large cedar tree (that I'm already none too fond of) that I noticed as having these weird pods on it. I'd guess I noticed the pods about a week after I planted the crabapples. Not being familiar with cedars, I thought they were some sort of springtime seed pod. Turns out it's the dreaded cedar apple rust.

Our HOA recently clear cut the greenbelt behind our house and eliminated several cedars, but we still have one in our yard, and one behind our fence line that also appears to have the stupid CAR.

Since these crabapples are so freshly planted, I'm wondering about using fungicides on them.

I could cut down the cedar on my property, but from what I've read, the other affected cedars in the area can still infect my crabapples.

Does anyone have any advice pertaining to:

-Controlling the CAR on our cedar

-Spraying the newly planted crabapples

Thanks so much.

(We planted 2 Prairiefire and 1 Profusion, according to their tags.)
