Going To Be A Cold Night Tonight

I think tonight might be the last really cold night for much of Oklahoma, although maybe not for the absolute coldest areas.

It looks like lows around 37 in parts of NE OK to about 40 in central OK to about 42 in southcentral OK. So, if the skies clear and if the winds stop, there is a very slim chance that very light patchy frost could form. If your place is in a low-lying microclimate that gets colder than the surrounding higher ground, it is even more likely.

If you have tomatoes, peppers or bean plants in the ground, you might want to cover them up.

After tonight, I think most of us can go full-steam ahead and plant.

Poteau forecast says low of 40 tonight which means 42-45 here.

My new min/max outdoor/indoor thermometer came over the weekend -- need to get it put up so I can get anal with my records. LOL

Depending on who you are looking at anywhere from 37-45. BUT it will be clear skies and no wind. That means about 26-30 for me.

Thinks will be on the up and up after tonight. I'll head to the feed and seed and buy a few veggies to plant. May start a slow exodus out of the greenhouse of the more cold tolerant things in about a week. Too much rain and 40's in the forecast still. :-)

Just ckd (all 3) soil heaters a/ they read between 58-62. So that is promising that hopefully the roots are surviving. Got to get those heaters installed tomorrow. Pam - Hopefully you a/ the doggies will be good to go come tomorrow.

1 PM and 2Â°, probably about -15Â° for a windchill. Doesn't take much of a breeze to get it cold. Double digits below for tonight. Few more days and it'll lighten up a bit. High 20s for the end of the week and the nights should ease when we get on the back side of the cell and suck up some of that "warm" southern air! The schools were all worried about getting the buses going this morning. I wouldn't think today should be all that much different than the last week or so. Letting them run for 1/2 hour or more to warm them up but they were starting them anywhere from about 4 AM on. Sun is bright but we likely won't squeak out much more than another degree or two I wouldn't think.

Well, it must be nice to stay warmer than the forecast. That only happens here in August. LOL

I bet the plants are whispering excitedly to one another and asking themselves who gets to go first when the slow exodus begins. : )

After tonight, the 40s pretty much go away for us and we're looking at 50s/70s which is some of my favorite weather. As for rain, let it rain, let it rain, let it rain! Summer will be here all too soon and we'll forget what rain is.

Should we start taking bets on whether or not the spring rains are going to flood your creek area again? That seems to have happened a lot the last couple of years.

The culprits that have plagued my life for the past 4 years are no longer around. Seems a watchful eye and #2 buckshot does wonders for a guys property. But I wouldn't be surprised if a migration brought a couple back around in the fall. No guilt here in removing a property destroyer and pest.

My creek stayed in it's banks just fine over the weekend. I need to go down and clean up the rest of what's left of the dam so water can flow better.

I miss ours because they were the cutest things, but I don't miss them enough to let a new bunch move in. Since we prefer our trees alive, they just aren't welcome here. I think the dogs still are mad that they cost their big swimming hole when the remains of the dam washed out in 2007, but they'll eventually get over it. One advantage of all the drought conditions since 2005 is that we haven't had enough water to entice them to come back into our creeks.
