Olive Branch is a lovely and subtle hosta, always beautiful in a garden setting. It's an average grower, and looks good from early spring to late fall. I highly recommend this often overlooked variety.

I know I really liked it. They had a whole bunch of Hostas that I had to add to my list!!

My wife has picked Olive Branch as her number one favorite for about the last decade - and we have about 750 varieties for her to choose from. I think she particularly likes it that its coloration is unique - no other hosta has that olive-caramel color. And, as previously noted, it holds its good color all season.

Olive Branch was wholesaled by Walters for a while, but they removed it from their offerings as it was a poor seller... but enough went out into the market that it shouldn't be a high priced one to add.

it is said.. that SOME of it did not come thru TC properly .. and that there are two versions ...

i was never convinced of such.. only time will tell ...

Now that you mention it Ken, I did have excellent luck with my first dozen Olive Branch, many years ago... then got a set a few years later from Walters that didn't ever show the same vigor and the first batch...

so I'm one of those that has felt that they may have gotten a weaker strain at some point in the tc process.

I've always thought that when you choose a particular eye for tc, and if there is a little genetic flaw or instability in that particular eye from that particular part of the crown - that it would be relatively easy to create a whole strain of thousands of plants that may resemble the true-to-type plant but with something just a little off - vigor, size, color...
