Wanted to get in on the early bird discounts so I placed an order yesterday. these are what I picked up.

Hosta Bridal falls
Hosta Blushing blue
Hosta Bluetooth
Hosta Mourning Dove
Hosta Rasberry Sundae

Also picked up arisaema griffithii. Any pics of these from your gardens last year are appreciated

Hi Mike, you got a good selection. I got a h.'Bridal Falls' last year, is to get big and beautiful, looking forward to it. My mature 'Mourning Dove' is showy, a nice blue.

I've put Frosted Dimples, Alligator Shoes and Mourning Dove in the same bed. Each is beautiful, like a group of pretty sisters. I haven't done the research into families to see if they're related. Mourning Dove is the one in the sun.

Vicky you have very nice list picked out. Here is what I have used from your list. Atom Smasher:-very fertile but thin substance-would cross with a thicker substance hosta- have gotten very good pod set Skylight: nice pod set, most seedlings had round leaves like the parent, got a nice yellow seedling of the mix- will need to cross with a different leaf shape to change leaf-nice powder blue has been passed on to a few streaked seedlings when used as a pollen parent Hacksaw-very fertile, much the same as Atom Smasher As for a streaked hosta, a few of the less expensive would be Christmas Tree Gala and Blue Lighting to name a ocuple. There are a few more on the market which are less expensive but the substance is very thin. Bill Silvers has CTG on his web page for sale. He will probably also be at the AHS convention in Iowa, so you woldnt have to pay shipping if you will be at the convention. He may even have more streaked hostas. These hostas may not bloom the first year. In my opinion if I was to start over there would not be any streaked named hostas I would buy. Have had more luck using the seedlings I grew from getting seeds from other hybridizers on the auctions. First Look Auction is coming up soon. Good luck in your hybridizing program, There is not really a right or wrong where to go here. I started out growing Open Pollenated seeds and had no goal in mind, not sure I still do, mostly just have fun doing crosses and growing OP seeds and see what surprises come up in my seed cups! T&M if you don't see fully leafed-out Hostas growing in your area at the present time, I wouldn't plant them. If you don't want to bother to pot them up temporarily, you could just plunk them all together into a recycling bin with drainage holes or some such, cover roots with soil or media, (they won't be in there long enough to matter, I'd rip open a bag of garden soil, since they will be living in it anyway) water and wait it out until it's safe to plant them in the ground. Just a suggestion :) Did I just hear some gasps about the use of soil or media? Lol

I think Gary is facing some tough choices and Naylor is not likely to remain same but hopefully Gary would be able to streamline his business to be able to cope. Debra , that is a good question. I am pretty sure I will be cursing myself in a month when I need to winterize all my pots. I think I will have to play musical chairs and pot some older hosta up and keep more valuable hosta in the ground. Otoh, some hostas are just better looking in the pot I think, specially with flowing leaves or smaller hosta. Funny bones for example had leaves that lay low, am not sure it will look good in the ground.

Lakesides were made for the south, but maybe not that far south. Although, you are in the mountains now, so it should be ideal. Yes L. Paisley Print is slow, but give it the right conditions (possible all day dappled shade, or morning sun to dappled shade or ...) and it is one of the most stunning Hosta around. Someone here has posted a well grown one. Here's one, the 6th picture down. Sorry its not the best photo.There are others. I think in the alphabet from 2019.

The only one I have on your list is Raspberry Sundae, Really nice plant and I was surprised how yellow it was in spring, its a very colourful hosta with great potential . I have not seen a photo of a mature one yet, if anyone has one please post a pic.

Mourning Dove has been on my "to get" list for a while..

Hi, Mike!

Good to see you posting again... I have two from your list of very lovely hostas: Bridal Falls and Raspberry Sundae.

The pic of RS shows the intense raspberry colour and as Denis stated, the leaves emerge a pretty yellow colour and turn white thereafter. I got it in 2013 where it had 4 leaves (1 eye/division) to emerge in 2014 with two divisions. This should be a stunning hosta when mature and I have not seen a mature one yet.

Ludi posted a pic of his either last year or this year and it is much prettier and larger than mine.

That RS looks so so wonderful! can't wait on it. I am opening up some new space this season so I have plenty of room to fill up. hoping Bridal falls fattens up fast. I get a real itch to buy plants when I can't go outside so Im sure I will add a few me before spring

here's a pic of morning dove in the gardens of Plant Delights.

and here's a pic of my Bluetooth. 2 years old, doing well, had faded some when this picture was taken because it got caught out in the sun too long but still beautiful and one of my favorites for its uniqueness.

It makes me very very proud to see that people on the other side of that big Ocean select a Hosta I bred to give it a space in their garden (Blushing Blue).
