seeds from berries rose hips can I plant them indoor now?

seedsfrom berries, goumi, rose hips can I plant them indoor now? I'm trying them in wet paper towels to sprout before moving them into little soil pots as I do with spring seeds from packets, can fresh seeds sprout? or do they need the cold of winter to go through a process?

Yes: most hardy trees and shrubs require cold treatment to germinate.

should I put them in the fridge for 6 weeks or just harvest them and keep them in a paper bag on the porch through the winter?

Rose seporate seed from "hip" then soak in acid (battery acid will work) for 1 hour then rince & store at 70F for 12 weeks then store at 40F for 12 weeks.... then lightly cover the seed soil temp 65-70F & takes 30 tom 365 days to germinate. The seedlings are used for root stock & breeding. Amarylis no pretreatment lightly cover seed soil temp 65-70F & takes 21-70 days to germinate 2-4 years to flower.

Were they hybrid varieties to begin with? If so then what you will get from their seeds normally will be two to four (on average) different types depending on their parental lines. That is assuming only two parents. If they were older open-pollinated (heirloom) varieties then their seeds will usually breed true. And since you cross-pollinated them the variables increase to 16-20 if hybrids. So you will need to grow out most of the seeds, select the ones with the characteristics you want to keep, grow them out, select again, etc. Normally it takes 6-7 generations of selecting and growing out to stabilize a cross-pollinated hybrid variety. What you are holding are "hips", seed pods. Roses are related to apples, so think of them as "rose apples". Inside there are achemes, what we call seeds. You can open the hips and dig out the seeds, but be careful of the fibers inside the hips. If you get them on you, it's as bad as fiberglass and you will itch like crazy until you shower to get them off you. Once the seeds are removed and all the pulp is cleaned from them, you can store them in a plastic bag in the vegetable crisper until fall/winter. Many who live in colder climates store them on damp, not 'wet', just damp, paper toweling inside ziploc bags until they see them begin to sprout, then they plant them individually. I live where I can (and do) plant outdoor for germination, so I'll let someone who lives in a colder climate and must handle them the way you likely should, give you advice from this point. But, yes, it might be possible for you to raise seedlings from the seeds those hips contain. Do it, you'll have fun! Good luck. Kim

If they're very dried out chances are they won't but what the heck, I'd go ahead and give them a try anyway. What could it hurt?

I have successfully sprouted rugosa rose seeds with this method:

Select fully ripe hips.
Remove seeds and wash them. Throw out any that float.
Dry on a paper towel.
Shake them in a jar with some seed starting mix.
Refrigerate and check in about three months.
If they have tiny, pale tails showing, remove gently and pot up in cell packs.
Grow in a warm, bright place.
Transplant to a nursery bed for first year or two.

I don't know if this will work for the other seeds you mentioned.

I would also take some extra fresh hips, soak them and remove the fruit from the seeds, do not let the seed dryout, plant them right away in a pot and keep it outside and moist, let the winter do it's thing and you would get some sprouting in the spring.
I got rose hips to sprout in place right in the ground this way too.
