Things are starting to turn here. It's late, just like spring and summer. I've enjoyed the pictures of changing hostas posted recently so I thought I'd share. These were taken yesterday the October 12.

A mature Paul's Glory will be taller and wider than a mature GS, GS is on the small end of large or the large end of medium, PG is definitely a large hosta. There has been a lot of mis-labelling of these two plants, which might account for the apparent similarities.

Great shots,Myrle! It's hard to believe you are so much further north than me. My hostas are a lot farther gone than yours. Some have already completely disappeared. Always enjoy your place. Thanks! Phil

Thank you folks. I'm glad you liked the pictures. Even though it's sad the hostas are going I always love the fall season. The colors and light are so interesting.

The mountain is Mount Bastion. I confess to having to look up the spelling of Mount Bastion (my spelling is atrocious as most of you know). I guess you learn something every day because I just found out that besides the fact that a photograph of Mount Bastion serves as the background for the driver's licence of BC, Salmon Arm is home to the longest wooden wharf in North America. Here is a picture.

The lake is The Shuswap. A roughly "H" shaped lake. Salmon Arm is at the bottom of the Right leg. In my view pictures Salmon Arm would be off to the left and not visable anyway since a hill is in the way.

For others who like maps, here is a map of BC showing where I live. Canoe (I'm a mile above it) is about 5 miles NE of Salmon Arm the actual town. We are halfway between Vancouver, BC and Calgary, Alberta a mile off the trans Canada Hwy. This is at the top of the Okanagan Valley which runs down across the border to Spokane, Washington. Anyone want to visit?

Myrle, thank you again for a taste of your garden. I was influenced by your gorgeous albums in Flickr, and now I am changing over to their site for my gardening albums. I still use Webshots for the history of the garden, but I think that Flickr will work better for a real display album.

The map helped a lot to pinpoint how far north you really are, and how close to our northern borders. In all your digging you have not yet run across some NUGGETS have you?
Wouldn't that be nice to buy a few more golden hosta!!!!

What a nice area! The water level in Lake Shuswap looks quite low. Are you having a drought, or is it used for water supply, hydro etc.?

Thank you all for the nice comments. I do feel fortunate to have the view but more than that the privacy. Our closest neighbor is 1/4 mile away which suits me just fine. We are at the end of a dead end road and back on to miles and miles of trees.

The level of the Shuswap is pretty normal. That was taken in September a couple years ago. It's very shallow and is basically a flood plain. During a wet spring the water comes right up but not every year. Our town is in the middle of a huge controversy right now because they have approved a Walmart to be built near the trees beyond the warf in the picture. Besides the eyesore I believe it would create it will potentially flood the traditional winter grounds of the Neskonlith First Nations People. Sadly many people in power don't seem to care. Personally I hope the town will be suied for enormous amounts of money not that that would make a difference. These lands have been theirs for thousands of years. Will some people ever grow a conscience ? I doubt it. Now I'll get off my soapbox.

Hi dear hosta friend,

Your wonderful pictures of the life cycle of your garden have always warmed my heart. Thanks for posting them.

As you have probably noticed I haven't been on the forum for weeks. I have been remiss in keeping in touch with the hosta gang.

My summer was a complete wipe out. Lower back and ankle/heel issues have kept me pretty much house bound. The results were a minimal amount of garden work done.

I am going for a second opinion on the treatment of my ankle/heel issue in mid. Nov.

Dr. No 1 says surgery with 2 months of non weight bearing on that leg. He said wheel chair use during that time. Then a cast and I can start to walk again.

What ever the outcome I will not be having anything done until after we get back from our winter vacation. I am getting around well enough not to change our plans.

I have had so many opinions as what to do but I'm not wanting to miss our annual trip to warmer weather and there is not enough time to have it done between now and then, soooooo.
