Possible transfer to Boston: where to garden?

This is getting ridiculous. Now I've got a possible transfer to Boston yet I just posted this same question in the San Francisco forum because there is another possibility there.

Basically, I'm trying to figure out if I transfer to Boston where one would get a house with a nice plot of land for gardening. Not only is the cost of living higher (I believe, at least in the burbs), but we'd really like a bigger garden than our current 120 x 33 lot (and I'd guess our house is worth about $420K).

I'm also not sure about weather differences other than having seen a US zone map, but I'm wondering if Boston is generally warmer since there's no lake nearby to cool it off (and I'm a heat lover!). So I'm trying to figure out where I'd live, where the train runs, etc., but what I'm really looking for is a big plot of garden land, maybe up to $800-900K or so.

Can any gardener in that area help me with this? Thanks!
