Will Crepe Myrtles bloom , thrive in NW?

I moved here several years ago from Mid-Atlantic, where

the Crepe Myrtle is a much-revered and popular tree, due to late summer flowering, interesting peeling bark, easy prunability and drought/heat tolerance.

I will be removing a stand of Douglas Firs in the back

(they need to be thinned, as there are about 10 in a space that could only support 1 or 2 full-sized trees).

Contemplated space is back yard, facing East, would get about 10 hours of a.m. and mostly afternoon sun.

Are there varieties that will both flower here and thrive in the dry summers of the NW (we're 10 blocks from Puget Sound)
