Thoughts on an informal hedge
Comments (12)I'm lucky no one castigated me about the backwards arrangement of my Nellies. I fixed the drawing but forgot to commit the fix to "save" before uploading. It should have looked like this instead. Rhody's and Camellias are very happy in many places in Georgia. The "layered" approach is not a good idea. If we're talking about the same thing, it's an inferior result to any other plausible solution. (If that causes anyone to squeal in pain and claim otherwise, I hope they will show a good example of layering to bolster their argument.)...See MoreWaxleaf Privet Hedge and Ficus Hedge Spacing
Comments (1)what is your personal goal .. immediate satisfaction.. or patience ... and your answer lies within ... if budget is irrelevant .. then fill it in ASAP ... why wait i dont see air flow as an issue.. since you want them to fill in completely anyway ... bottom line.. you are overthinking it... just tell us what you want.. right now .. dont think about it .... come on.. we are waiting.... ken...See MoreSpread of Ceanothus ovatus (Red Root)?
Comments (2)Growth behavior of shrubs is not that fixed anyway. You can't read a representative spread for the species somewhere and then know that your planting will become exactly the same size. If you want them to touch, plant the same distance apart as you you think they will grow tall. Keep in mind that shrubs do not grow to a certain height and then come to a complete halt, while remaining vigorous and attractive....See MoreWhat to mix between red chokeberries in an informal hedge?
Comments (4)Keep in mind that the Aronias will sucker and thicken up in a few years. But 3 Aronias in a 30 foot section is not much. You have room for a great many other shrubs. I'd group all three togther, then add other shrubs. You don't want the area to look polka dotted especially since it appears you're trying to keep the planting very narrow with only one layer to it....See Moreian_wa
