My apologies for my bad phrasing

I'm sorry I seemed to be leading some GWer's on by asking if anyone was going to the Dartmouth MA open gardens. Next time I'll be more careful with my phrasing, so that there is no ambiguity. On that hot Saturday I ended up spending most of the day indoors under the big ceiling fan, with a glass of ice water and a regency romance. It's still horribly hot today and I hope everyone is staying in the shade and that everyone watered their most fragile young plants early in the day.

Hi Carol,
I preferred to email you but kept getting an error message. First, no big deal. Misunderstandings happen. However, I didn't feel insulted or led on at all. It was more the sharp demurral that you ever meant to issue an invitation. It felt a little off, and although it mostly likely not personal (because we don't know the first thing about one another) it felt personal. That was ridiculous on my part and I am sorry I didn't stop and think. Most of the time we just ignore things like this on this forum, and I wish I had (twice) but honestly, I think my judgment is impaired by two weeks of heat.
There's no a.c. in this computer room, I can't open the windows easily and the sweat just pours off me when I'm working on line. This is one of my favorite pastimes and unexpectedly it has turned in something close to torture!
I wish you well and look forward to getting to know you online. Fresh start, ok?

My message about not going to the open gardens was short because I was in a similar un-airconditioned situation and didn't want to even TOUCH the keys. Now back in MA for 2 A.C. days, I am happy to rest my forearms on the desk as I type.
I came back with 4 huge zucchini, about a half bushel of kale, and 2 lbs. of stringbeans, from my new toy, a fenced kitchen garden or potager. Lots of cooking and freezing to do today.
Why do I forget, over the winter, how much I hate hot weather?

Annie, it's gracious of you to offer Flora an apology whether she was offended or not. Since you've resurrected the subject I have to say that I took offense at your WHITE men comment for a number of reasons. My husband is a contract worker who has been in the oil & gas industry for more than 30 years. He's risked his job on a number of occasions reporting something that's not right. Two of his co-workers were among those who lost their lives on the Deepwater Horizon. I have a hard time saying the name BP without spitting on the ground afterward. Many in the oilfield feel the same way, but that doesn't mean everyone (with BP) is to blame. Another thing ... don't be so sure that there aren't Native Americans who also earn their living working on oil & gas rigs on and off shore.

Isn't it interesting.....that so many caring individuals on this board jumped onto the idea that we wanted to pass along our experiences....our fears, that perhaps we face each day and recall how casual our MD's treated us, way back when we were first diagnosed. "Take this pill, and watch your sugar intake....lose weight" oftentimes is the mantra that they offer. I cannot remember when I haven't been trying to lose weight...I cannot think of a weight loss program I have not tried in all my years. Information is better now days....support IS more available, and people are no longer ashamed/inhibited about talking about this dread disease. My husband has just left to pick up a new electric scooter for me at the PO. I have been fighting having to use one for far too long....and, I remember meeting a lady (at a conference) some 10 years ago, using a scooter "because she had diabetes". We talked of many things; not diabetes or why she could not go "antiquing" with the group and today I wonder if her ailment was like mine.....and she might have enlightened me. Nerve damage happens one day at a time, one peak at a time until you push a walker to get around (or a grocery store basket!) and maybe lastly an elec scooter. I am so sorry. I would like to re-direct my message to anyone that does have or "almost" have a diabetes diagnosis. I still know that I am very lucky. I still can "stagger around" with poor balance and fearful of falling. My family, my doctor, my husband and my medications all work for me and work well. Take Care!

Boxer - I "ditto" what lazydaisy says above, I'd love to be your neighbor, too. We are all your "virtual" neighbors, right? I've read far, far more than I've ever posted on this site (I'm sure I'm not the only person on here that thinks that I'm not that great at "visions" and decorating and I absolutely can't "see" things on paper such as drawn plans to be able to visualize in my head what someone's kitchen will look like and I presume very few would be interested in my thoughts, so I hesitate to write much) and you are always right there with ideas, encouragement, great photos, etc. for all to consider and enjoy. Here's a big "Thank you!" to you and to all of the others who are so great about providing helpful ideas and insight to those of us in the midst of kitchen planning. [My kitchen is pretty much done, but I'm clueless on taking and posting photos - I'll get DH to do it some day.] Have an awesome day. :-)

Great pic Oakley! Your cat looks very interested! Moccasins are BAD. I do think they are temperamental snakes! You better get some cilantro planted around those tomatoes! That bull snake would scare me too! I meant to say oak...don't know why I typed walnut trees! Bethpen that is so scarey!!! I would have almost died too! I cannot imagine a snake flying out at me! I used rags to scoop the snakes up. The only one that tried to bite was the baby snake stuck on the painters tape. It was hard to get off. It kept snapping at me. I didn't want to touch it and I was trying to bend the tape so it could get itself off. It finally did and slithered outside. I think snakes are interesting but I don't like them enough to touch them or ever want one for a pet. For whatever reason, I always seem to run into snakes. People who lived in AZ have told me they have never seen a rattler their whole lives. I stopped counting at 35 my first summer mtn biking here. I almost stepped on a huge one when my gears malfunctioned one night. I was VERY lucky it didn't strike as it was PO. Twice when I was small, I ran into rattlers in the desert that were angry and ready to strike. My grandfather had to shoot them with his pistol. Another time I ran into a huge King snake. He actually caught it with his bare hands to show me it was harmless. When I was little we moved to NC so my stepdad could go to duke law school. I found a baby snake on the side of the road and put it in my overalls pocket. I forgot about it until dinner. I remember my mother dropping dishes when I pulled it out of my pocket. It was alive and probably quite happy in my pocket. It was a copperhead.

Why do I forget, over the winter, how much I hate hot weather?

Could have something to do with the sound of chains and steel clanking and scraping against the icy asphalt that break the peaceful wonderland as it careens past your freshly cleared driveway. Just "thinking out loud".

Or that feeling -- like you've been sucker punched -- when your feet go flying out from under you as you gingerly try to get down three stairs and take three steps to your car, only to land flat on your butt in a puddle of slush.....

It will be years before I forget how much I hate hot weather. I mean YEARS!! All winter long I love it, and all sumer long...except for THIS SUMMER...I tell my relatives in Alabama how wonderfully cool and dry it is here. I rub it in...a LOT.

I hope no one minds, but I'm going to start a new thread on this subject. I don't think I want to keep reading my posts about the effects of hot weather on my judgement.

If people don't post on this thread, it will drop into oblivion at at least a couple of people won't mind!
