PM2, I know about the following from last years experience Yes to california poppy daylily pansies zinnia, just did some last week and they germinated in 3 days, last year did the same thing and they bloomed fine, all the way into early Nov. pansies and violas, T&M says many of them need at least 70 degree soil to germinate. hosta hibiscus is iffy. some of mine have survived and others didn't and they where the same seed. Carol, When I see 'sow in the fall' I assume that the seed needs the 'freeze' and 'thaw' of winter, and is suitable for Winter Sowing. There are some things like poppies, which do not like to be moved that are best sown now, when the ground is still workable, where they will grow, covered to protect them from birds and weather. But they can also be Winter Sown. If you are not sure, go to the site wintersown.org and consult the database (link at the bottom of the first page) for your zone and see whether WSing is recommended for the seed you have. I'm just up the road from you in 16, and we're still tossing poppy seeds out. My fall planted ones are only just coming up, so give your seeds a bit of moisture to help them along and you should be just fine for this year's bloom.
