Black leaf spotting on my Garrya elliptica

thane

I planted five Garrya elliptica in the fall. At the time, all five of them had some black spots on the leaves. I had read that they were susceptible to a disease like this, so I was holding out hope that it wouldn't be an issue.

Now it seems that four of them are fine. I'm not seeing any spotting on them at all, or maybe on one or two leaves. The fifth one has gone the other way, with the spotting getting worse. It has put on a fair amount of new growth this spring, and the new growth has been unspotted, but now I see a few of the new leaves are getting the spots.

Should I cut off all the spotted leaves on the sick shrub, and just let it grow from its new stems? Should I worry about the spotting spreading to the nearby Garrya?

Thanks for any advice...
