Happy Grow out in West Tulsa has bulk product, like compost. We've bought from them several times. They generally have mulch, compost, and topsoil/compost mix. Haven't been out there in a couple of years, but I'd recommend them.

Sorry for the bad information. It's been a couple of years since we've used them and it's too bad that they're gone. They provided a lot of good materials. We bought from them when they were in Broken Arrow, and followed them when the moved out to west Tulsa.

This may not be good but you can give it a whirl. A couple of years ago I was roaming around and thought I spotted what MAY have been compost in an open bin. They are in Bixby right off of Memorial. You can call them. I believe the name is Hardscape something or other and they cater to the builders trade as well as retail.

I believe there are a couple places, Hardscape and others on south Memorial that sell compost by the cubic yard. Like Tiner's in Catoosa, it's a little more expensive by the yard($33) than the tandem load. I've found a place in West Tulsa called Gem Dirt that sells pure leaf compost or a 50/50 mix of leaf compost and top soil @ $285 for a 12 yard load. They also sell what they call a garden mix which is mushroom compost, leaf compost and manure for $325 if anyone is interested. I didn't ask but I believe Gem dirt will sell by the (pickup load) cubic yard also. Gem Dirt's number is (918) 298-0299.

Awaiting delivery of my 12 yard load of garden mix from Gem Dirt ($345 delivered to my place in East Broken Arrow. Now, I just need to find somewhere to buy straw in bulk, and I will be set!

Has anyone tried Sanders Nursery in Broken Arrow? I saw what looked like bulk loads when I was there a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure if any of it was compost. I think some of it may have been Back to Nature which I've been told id really good for the soil.

I used Gem Dirt this year for the first time. Their garden mix (40% topsoil, 40% mushroom compost, 10% leaf compost and 10% manure) looks pretty good, and is cheaper than some of the other places around town. The last few years I've gone to Ken Davis Co. on 46th just east of Mingo. The 50/50 mix of mushroom compost and topsoil is excellent, but it's $45 per cubic yard, while Gem Dirt's garden mix is only $25.

I'd like to find a place to buy straw in bulk as well. I paid $6 a bail last halloween. The only other place I know that even sells it is Atwoods, I think they have it for $6.95 a bail. I'm always watching Craig's list, but I never see straw, just grass hay that I'm afraid will bring bermuda into my garden.

Five of my beds contain Gem Dirt garden soil and they produced a tremendous amount of tomatoes last year.

It may be a little late in the year but I used Craigslist last time to locate bulk straw. Unfortunately we would have had to buy a semi trailer load (150 bales? Can't remember, but it was a lot) so we ended up getting our straw delivered from a feed store close to Remington Park in OKC. More expensive, but we didn't have to deal with 150 bales, either.

In early summer you might ask on Craigslist to pick some wheat straw up in the field and you might find somebody that will let you have it for under $4. Also, keep your eyes open in June for people in fields loading it up and ask them about it.
