Unless you want to get a PLC resistant tree, your current tree doesn't need to be removed. PLC isn't a systemic disease that affects the tree for life. The fungus floats around in the environment Immunox isn't rated for PLC and will have no effect on it. However Fungonil should have done the trick for you. It sounds like you may have gotten the Fungonil spray on too late. The tree needs to be fully dormant when you apply the Fungonil. I hate that you lost yet another crop, but next year spray the tree with Fungonil in the fall after it goes dormant, and then sometime in VERY early spring, before the buds swell. Fungonil needs to be on the trees before they wake up.

Thanks fruitnut and bejay. It seems like the tree is recorvering well now. Most of the new leaves are fine so I'll thin harder and leave the fruit on. Interestingly, I read from a previous discussion on PLC on this forum that compost tea helps with PLC so I totally soaked my tree about 5 days ago and the tree took a very sudden turn for the better withing a few days. Might be a coincidence because the weather turned for the better at the same time, but I'll def. keep testing the compost tea. oh and fruitnut, the weather has been absolutely terrible just until now.

(it's too bad I cannot edit an existing post!!) Okay, now I'm not sure; some images of Rhamnus ilicifolia *also* look much like this (including the red branches on the immature portions of the plant). Also, I've seen mature R. ilicifolia elsewhere on that ridge. Multiple descriptions of Q. palmeri, describe a clumping characteristic which I've seen with this plant, further up the ridge where it gets more constant sun and wind. Does anyone know of a diagnostic that I might apply in the field, to distinguish between these species??

Hi Patty, always a pleasure to hear your input. - thank you! The Gold Nuggets pictured are from Four Winds and so i believe on Cuban Shaddock. The Clementines are on Carrizo. The symptoms of too little water can be similar to too much. Essentially, the roots are not functioning properly. I initially thought my issues were related to too much water and phytophthora, but by pulling the GN and later the Clem, i discovered 1/2 the roots with a bit of moisture and the other half bone dry. [the Clem had an additional issue - neighboring tree root encroachment that was taking up the resources]. One of the GN's and both Clems were in the ground, in fill clay, and on a significant slope - so no drainage issue. Pulling that GN out of the ground and allowing it to enjoy constant moisture, food and water brought it back. Moving one of the Clems to another location with water pH of 7.1 and watching it respond gave me that "aha". A key point here is to try your best to asses your specific situation and feed/water/fix accordingly. And BTW, I would like to add that I still leaf-read, but its only one data point! I have noticed that Citrus leaves show evidence of their environment anywhere from 1-7 days [drought tends show more quickly]. If you adjust for something that you see the leaves showing you, it can set you up for some very wild swings in care.... the leaves might be telling you what happened last week!. - Golf is easier because your shot gives you instant feedback!
