This is the second year of my garden. I am new to this and enjoy new projects. I recently made my own beer, then three gallons of home aid wine (blackberry, strawberry and peach/kiwi). Now I am going to try square foot gardening. I never follow directions exactly and like to mess around. I also tried starting a blog in order to keep track of what I've tried and if it works or not.

I hope to continue to add pictures as I go for people like me who need to see how something works.

Nice! I'd like to start one for my own garden, but I'm not sure if I'll make it public or not. I'll post it here if I do! An online blog just seems way more useful than a paper journal for keeping track of everything because you can tag entries by subject and search for keywords when you want to find something. You can post pictures with your notes too. :)

Nancy, I tore my meniscus some 7 years ago and it was a while before I got to see the knee specialist. I believed I was mismanaged by my regular doctor then or rather his staff at the time. While they did immediately sent my file to the knee surgeon, either they didn't do much follow up or the doctor didn't emphasize enough the state of my knee. It took a rehab doctor to tell me I needed an operation and so with that information I went right back to my doctor and demanded they follow up with the knee surgeon. At that point they gave me the phone no to that clinic and when I made the phone and explained my state, I was seen immediately and they wanted to operate the following weekend. Talk about mismanagement and the further damages it caused my knee. 50 percent of my meniscus is gone. I cannot do any sports anymore as a result.

The reason you want thousands of non local hits on any blog is so it goes up in the search engines so that when someone Googles your farm name that is what comes up at the top of the first page of the search and not things unrelated to your blog. if your blog doesn't show up in the first 10 entries few to no people will ever find it through a search 9and that is how 95% of the readers will find your blog). So if you go only for local readers your blog may get 3 to 5 hits a week and over a year's time have maybe 10 regular readers-not effective marketing. the locally grown thing works only if there are several others in your area using it. There is no one around me using that software so it is useless to me unless i want to do all the marketing work getting people to use the software to buy from and than i have to deliver the goods to them, etc. Where this is established it works but it is a lot of work to set up a system in a new area. Facebook is a lot more flexible than a blog. they are two very different things-blogs allow you to tell your story in depth. FB allows you to do rapid updates that people will see as people are on FB for hours on end. But it is not easy to get real in depth and write say 500+ word updates on FB and have people read them. Facebook allows me to do actual business-I sell CSA shares over FB. I have never actually sold anything because of the blog. the blog is what gets people interested in the farm, though.

For the beanies, if they are ribbed at the edge, I would go with the rib cable cast on. There is a video showing how to do it. The lady in the video is a thrower, but you could do it in continental or combination just as easily. It makes a very nice edge. http://www.keep-on-knitting.com/rib-cable-cast-on.html Here is great bind-off for a shawl or scarf. It is stretchy and pretty. I just discovered the Vintage Market and Design chalk paint yesterday at the "home base" store by the same name in Albuquerque. This is the shop where this paint brand and finishes were developed.My head is swimming after browsing the shop with all the design possibilities! Lol! Bac717, you've done a lovely job on the chairs! Have you watched the YouTube instruction videos on this brand of paint? I've found them very helpful. Also, I'm not sure if you are aware but VMD does not recommend a wax as the final finish for your furniture but one of their clear coats over their brand of wax. I started my first piece last night and am excited about many more to come and I am so happy that this shop is local for me! I'm not affiliated at all with this company just an excited customer. Sue

I have to admit I saw this thread before anyone posted and promptly marked it in my favorites. Ezz - I'll mark and follow yours too.

I've found following garden blogs to be a HUGE help in my efforts, not to mention it's just plain fun! I follow 4 blogs of friends I met here, although 2 don't post anymore. One (Ilene) has become a very dear friend in person AND my life would not be the same without Glenda's French Bread recipe. Can't forget to mention the antidotes that tigerdawn adds with her critters and her plants!

Of course, I follow Diane's! It's how I keep up with how big her kids are growing! I also have to say I admire you greatly if you do "blog". I'm blessed in many ways but I'm just not "together" enough to do that so THANK YOU to you all that do!

Larry, you sweet talker you! I haven't been able to post terribly often this winter since I came down with a severe case of soccermomitis. I'm hoping I'll have more time once baseketball season is over at the end of February -- which, coincidentally, is when things start to heat up in the seed starting department around here.

I woke up the other morning and annouced to my hubby, "time to start seed shopping" and he goes, "well, see you in the fall" hehehehehe...

I have been swamped with work this week...I hope to get that post out tonight.
