The latest I heard was that Putnam City schools are not closed as of yet (as of 15 minutes ago). So check the news or your local paper/news online for updates.

Kenna's school is not closed, but it is not a public school and the kids don't walk to school nor is there bus service cuz they come from all over the city.

Thought I would add that in case your child attends a parochial school, and also not all have closed yet.

All of that is good info and I went back to see if The Oklahoman had a link other than the article and I found one.

The list of closings, delays and "snow route" notifications is growing, so I've linked the searchable page that is available from The Oklahoman. It includes school and church closings, delays, etc. and I expect they'll add to this list all night. It also could include day cares and even business closings, but I don't remember if I saw any of those when I looked at it earlier. At the time I last looked at it, it had 78 places listed. While I was typing this, the number jumped to 84.

I was scheduled to have some blood work done tomorrow at my Dr. in Moore. They called and cancelled too so there's the first business!

There will have to be 2 inches of ice on the ground before my job will close...danged law offices. =(

Y'all remenber....the huge threat with this cold front is the very intense wind chill. Earlier, the NWS said the wind chills would be so low that any exposed skin could develop frostbite in 30 minutes or less. So, based on that, I understand all the closings.

When Tim left for work this afternoon, he did everything the NWS recommended....extra clothing, a heavy blanket in the car in case you become stranded, a full tank of gas, drinks and snacks, etc.....and he was headed south! Of course, by he time his shift ends and he's headed north, the cold front will have come through here already.

They told us this would be a moderate El Nino and we'd see modest changes in our weather...basically slightly colder weather and a little more precip than usual. Based on what we've seen since....well, let's say mid-December, I think they are wrong and this may end up being a severe El Nino. Who needs El Nino anyway? LOL

Paula, You be careful tomorrow. I think you'll be out in weather so cold it will hurt. What's wrong with those folks at the FAA anyway---putting y'all at risk in one of the worst cold spells we've had in years?

Quailhunter, Woo hoo! A day off. Too bad the weather won't be nice enough to let you work in the garden.

I'm pretty sure nothing will close this far south unless the forecast freezing drizzle actually falls and coats roadways or power lines or something. Or, since Marietta's old water lines in town break at the drop of a hat, I guess if a water line that carries water to a school broke, then they might cancel classes.

I also expect a lot of marginally hardy plants won't make it through this cold. What can you do though? You choose plants that are supposed to be able to handle the average lowest temps in zone 7 or zone 6, and then your plants get hit by below-average temperatures and wind chills and they may not survive it.

Paula, do you work for attorney in private practice? If so, I can sympathize cuz we rarely closed for anything. They might let us off early if we were getting a severe ice storm or something.

Dawn, my little space heater did just fine and everything is okay, I made sure it was isolated from other stuff in the laundry room. My LR is large so it is not in a small confined space. I checked it several times, too.

Brrr, just sitting in the living room and listening to the wind howl makes me cold! The birdies are going to have to do without a refill today. Poor things! I worry about the outdoor cats that we sustain, but I can't bring them in much as I might like to. I hope they find a warm place to wait this out.

Union in Tulsa is closed today. Yesterday I took advantage of our very large building, and walked at lunch, and also during my planning period. I was able to walk about 40 minutes with a break for stretching. I won't challenge ice, so we have very little area to walk outside.

I am worried about my roses. Many of them are zone 7 -- teas and noisettes. I did as always, and waited to mulch until the varmits had time to find their nests, and leave my roses alone. That means that my roses have no protection. The bags of mulch are near them, but I cannot walk on ice to cover them -- besides it is 13 degrees here now.

Good luck everyone. Ours was one of the few schools that was only closed for THurs. I am not sure if we will be home tomorrow or not. I hope not.

As long as I cannot be outside, I would just as soon teach.

I noticed this morning that the closing/delay list had added tons of new listings---it was up to about 285 closings/delays/alt. bus routes when I looked at it this morning. It sounds like it is pretty bad up there.

I'm glad the space heater kept the L.R. warm enough that the pipes didn't freeze. Space heaters just make me nervous because of all the fires we go to that were started by them.

Did Kenna end up having school in spite of the weather?

I went outside long enough this a.m. to fill up all the bird waterers, restock the feeders, let the poulty out of the coops, and put out the deer corn. It was very cold, but not insanely cold. I think I would have felt warmer if the wind had not been howling...and it howled all night long.

Sammy, I do hope that your roses made it. At least the roots were good and moist, right?

I understand your last statement that if you cannot be outside, you'd just as soon be teaching. I am afraid we're in for a brutal winter and all of us will be starved for more time outdoors.

Muskogee schools are closed today and tomorrow, so my poor 15 year old had to go duck hunting with his dad this morning and got his limit and a banded bird so he thinks the school closing was divine intervention....lol.

Dawn, now you must quit saying we're in for a brutal winter cuz it could be a self-fulfilling prophecy and we don't want you planting tomatoes and setting up your WOWs in the snow!

Repeat after me, now. "Spring will soon be here; Spring will soon be here"......... Now that's my mantra and I am sticking to it and I want it to be yours, too.

I don't know about Kenna's school cuz I haven't talked to DD today, and I say that with a bit of a bite in my voice. My car battery is dead and she was supposed to take me to pay some bills Monday, and that turned into Tuesday, and that turned into Wednesay, and so I ended up having to take a taxi. Grrrrrrr! She doesn't work so I know she doesn't have that crowded an agenda! Okay, Susan, settle down, Spring will soon be here!

Susan, Believe me I wish I felt an early spring thaw in my bones, but I don't. We're way overdue for a really hard winter and I think we're having one. I don't like it any more than you do. Late winter and early spring weather is a heartbreaker here in this part of the country.

Spring will arrive at the same time it always does....two months later than we wish it would arrive.

Today was a pretty cold day to have to get out to pay bills. I could barely stand being outside long enough to feed the animals, give them fresh water, turn on their lights for heat, and close up the chicken coops. None of those things take very long to do, but in cold weather like this, it feels like you're out there forever.
