No tiller!

Hi everyone. :)

On monday my dear friend Mark passed away after his long battle of diabetes... it was a shock to all of us. We knew he wasn't well, but didn't expect him to pass away in his sleep. He was the my first "garden enabler"... he came over here and tilled the ground for me and gave me tomatoes, peppers and one squash plant for my first ever garden. (And he's the one who gave me the vining okra seeds, too.)

Now that he's gone, I'm fairly sure his family will be selling his tiller to help pay for funeral expenses. Soooo... I'm trying to think of how I can still do a garden with no tiller available to me. Any ideas? Or do I just need to invest in a very strong hoe? :)
