vertical cukes and squash

hey all!

Im planning out my new raised bed and it is going to be 4'x 16'. It will be along side an east/west running 6' wood privacy fence. This spot gets sun from rise to set. Anyways to save space I was hoping to trellis the cukes and squash on the fence and then be able to plant short stuff in front of it. The trellis whether I use premaid cattle panel or just string wire, will be about 4-6 inches away from the pickets. Is this ok or should I build something a bit further out from the fence. Also is 4' wide enough for 2 squash and 2 cukes growing vertical?

Thanks

Mike
