Arctostaphylos 'Sunset' and 'Howard McMinn' in zone 8?

I found these at a local nursery -- the tag says they're hardy to zone 7 but some of the information I'm turning up says they're hardy to 15 degrees, which we came within a few degrees of this past winter.

I'm willing to gamble a little, but only a little... if these manzanitas don't have a decent chance here, I don't want to get invested in them.

Any experience with these two varieties? And are they better off in the back yard (full sun) where they're more protected from winds (but there's also less airflow for cold air to move downhill) or in the front, west-facing yard where they're slightly more exposed to wind, but where it's a hill, so frigid air won't pool around the plants?

Thanks!
