Lavatera and Australian Mint Bush

I have a 6'cedar and copper fence/trellis that I'm covering with a number of climbing roses and clematis. Between this fence and a curbed lawn, I have a narrow bed that I wanted to plant alternately between the climbers with lavatera etc. I visited that fairly new nursery out in Covington in search of a variety in gallon size and ended up with a couple of Aureas, a couple of Red Rums, a Barnsley, and an Australian Mint Bush for this planting area.

Since I am still learning on the fly and have no experience with any of these, I would appreciate anyone's tips. I read that the mint bush is a bit temperamental and may have to be treated more like an annual which I can live with because of the variety it gives me in this planting area. I've also read that the lavateras don't really like or need a lot of nutrients or they get too leggy. Does anyone have any care tips for either? Any advice would be much appreciated.
