Asian Pear -pruning dead branches

Hi, I need some advice. I have an Asian Pear tree that I planted and which produced last year. It is currently in flower but I notice that a couple of branches are totally w/o flower or foliage. I am presuming they are dead. I wonder when I should remove these branches...now or?? And how far down should I prune when I do? Thanks for your help. Barbara
