It sounds like you all have it figured out and all the advice is excellent as far as I can tell. I just couldn't help but agree that it absolutely looks like clopyralid or amiopyralid damage. I had a bad bout with it 3-4 years ago when all my homemade potting soil got contaminated by well composted alpaca manure. It took over a month to figure it out and I lost a bundle of valuable crops in the process. Clopyralid based herbicides have been banned in Oregon except for use on golf courses but then Dow chemical just comes out with Milestone which is amiopyralid instead. It's the same exact problem just with another chemical. To the OP, i'm afraid there really isn't anything you can do for the plants. If the cause is the manure, at least you're not contaminated forever. In the soil the chemicals do break down in a few months. But if left above ground the herbicide can last for years and damage sensitive plants (mostly tomato, potato, legumes) at tiny amounts (parts per million). Oh, I looked into a soil test for herbicide and it was extremely expensive. It's not an average soil test. It is called VARIEGATED FOLIAGE - and it is a very desirable. I think your pink variegated plant is very attractive. They usually grow a bit slower - and bloom someway less - because of the decrease in green tissue with hard working chlorophyll. Seems that your plan to revive the sad plants did work well. Plants look happy. Your 2 top plants need smaller pots - the rule is 1:3 diameter of the pot to diameter of the rosette - and the soil could have some more perlite to be lighter. But - they are definitely happy and healthy. Good Job! irina

Without a name, about the best I could offer is that you may be in too mild a climate for this particular azalea to perform it's best. Feeding/fertilizing is counterproductive for blooms on azaleas in general; these plants have somewhat low nutritional requirements, and that great dose of fertilizer may well result in even more foliage not flowers...Overfertilization, along with shade, is one of the reasons for failure to bloom. But what I suspect your problem may be (understanding that I'm about as far from Florida as anyone could be)is that your winter temperatures may not stay low enough long enough for good flowering. Warm winter temperatures may not provide adequate chilling, resulting in sporadic or lack of flowering for some azaleas. Can you just enjoy it for the foliage?

Since Soultan is not here, I thought I would help him out and bump one of the older threads before it is lost. In my gardens and outside, it is not unusual to see a superficial red mark here and there. There is a big difference between 'Red Blotch' and the marks made my a slight bruise or a bug of some sort. Most of the year, my amaryllis are outside. They get watered from above (yes, rain and sometimes a sprinkler). Perhaps, this is possible because our spring/fall/summer temps are high enough that the bright sun quickly causes the leaves to dry. This is true despite the fact that, being on the Gulf Coast, the humidity is tremendously high. You should see the red marks after a hurricane or tropical storm. I suppose I have become accustomed to that, especially during recent years. Fortunately, I have never had problem with mites (knock on wood), and I read somewhere recently that this may be due to our warm/hot temps. BTW, after getting down to 20 degrees last week, we are now experiencing a heat wave with highs of above 70 degrees. NICE! But awfully confusing to plants... Anyway, consider this thread bumped!
