Other victims of red lily leaf beetle?
Comments (23)The lily leaf beetles ate my tiger lilies to the ground a couple of years ago - I've got 4 little stunted ones left that I'm trying to save. In my vigilance I've found lily leaf larvae on potatoes, chinese lantern (physalis) and violets. I'm trying to eradicate the chinese lantern and violet and I'm half tempted to let the beetles do it for me but they'll just move on to something else. Saturday I had 2 generations of larvae working on the chinese lanterns - all lined up in a row munching away, disgusting but also made it easy to pull up the whole plant and dump it in a bucket of soapy water. If I'm feeling particularly vengeful I dump some alcohol in with the soap. Any success stories? Happy Gardening!...See MoreRed Lily Leaf Beetle Sited
Comments (26)I've been through it all - tried hand-picking them, sprayed a couple of times, etc, and after 3 seasons of decimated lillies, I actively dug many bulbs out and threw them away. Last Spring/Summer'14, after I had done a lot of web-searching, I began watering with a spinosad solution once the tips emerged. I watered them with either a spinosad or neem solution every 5-8 days, RELIGIOUSLY, and my lillies all did well. These beetles reproduce like crazy, so you really need to treat at least weekly!!! Water the soil AND the leaves (especially the underside of the leaves) with the treatment solution....See MoreRed Lily Beetles
Comments (11)I saw my first lily leaf beetle today on a tiger lily. There were no obvious holes on the leaves and no other lilies were touched, even though a couple lilies are several feet high. I dispatched the beetle with a permethrin spray, but didn't spray any other lilies (too many bees around). Claire...See MoreRed Lily Beetles
Comments (56)In my yard it seems to be an issue of location, location, location. I'm only seeing the beetles on the tiger lilies in one corner of the yard. They haven't reached the other tiger lilies scattered around other parts of the yard and none of the other lilies by the house. I suspect a new infestation flew in and settled where it found some lilies. I figure if I can wipe these out I'll be OK next year. I'll probably do a soil drench with a Bayer's product.
