That sounds like a bunch of nonsense to me. Look for scientific data that would support that. I'm a nurse and have never heard of anything like that. And, this Fig forum is for edible figs, Ficus carica. You be better served in posting this question over on the House Plants Forum. Both ficus cultivars you're referring to are ornamental varieties. Melike, you can see the tree by clicking the green link in the original post. However, HUrandomnumber, you can embed photos by using the camera icon below the message box. As to the tree, it looks parched. And until it’s growing well it can’t make use of any fertiliser. It just needs water IMO.

is the first pic from the top?? ...its hard to make heads or tails out of the pix .... all dead wood should be removed .. at a min ... i cant figure what happened on these pix ... the rest of the tree doesnt look all that bad on these pix ... except that as a babe.. it was planted about 15 feet too close to the house .. with no room for its future potential.... too bad on that ... dont fixate on saving a mistake the prior owners made ... in tree time.. it might die .. or you might get tired of it ... that might happen in the next 5 to 10 years ... or you might decide tomorrow that it really isnt adding anything to the front of your gorgeous house.. and you'd be better off without it ... so personally.. i wouldnt waste much energy worrying about it.. nor investing a lot of money in it ... knowledge is power.. it would be nice to try to figure out whats going on ... ken ps: any chance a new roof was put on..any time in the last few years??? pps: where are you.. big city name.. might help us with disease issues.. if there are any ... or winter issues.. etc ..

@Silica @JoJo (Nevada 9A) Thank you both for chiming in here! As far as the watering issue, I know there is something awry, but I do not know if it's a lack of water. I gave this tree a HEFTY soak when I had posted this, and the soil feels moist around the dripline. It was dryer than the Sahara before this. I can't dig around too deep, because I know there's a gas line there somewhere. Now for the issue of the irrigation system. This house is duplex split in half, and we have one side. There is one water valve which I am assuming "irrigates" the area where my trees are in the rear of the house, and may not be regulated. In the front of the house, there's an Orbit irrigation system, with a manual on/off valve at the top (this is currently turned off). however there's some sort of wiring that looks like it was originally hooked up to something. I have no idea what it was hooked up to, but the white wire runs into the wall of the house, and I can't determine what it is. Sounds like I may have to speak to my landlord on this one first, but it seems that the soil is still moist. The Meyer is the only tree that I'm concerned about at the moment, as the leaves seem to look funny, although they're producing lots of fruit. Here are more photos if you care to see :)
