Watson's outside of Puyallup is probably the best full service nursery in the Tacoma area - 6211 Pioneer Way, 253/845-7359. Or you could try Penninsula Gardens across the Narrows bridge in Gig Harbor.

Jungle Fever Exotics in the Ruston area is a unique and wonderful nursery. Your friend will enjoy visiting there in spring or summer. It really is a great destination. In warm weather they usually have 20 ft. tall banana trees out front, and lots of incredible plantings of tropical look as well as desert plants.

I was adding to the post about Jungle Fever, if that wasn't clear. Definitely the most interesting one that I have been to in Tacoma, an enthusiast's oasis rather than a general garden center. Be sure to check out their private collection right next door, most of it is visible from the sidewalk. Good place to see some things that don't grow here being grown here. I find this kind of thing quite exciting, myself. Usually have to go across the street and get something to eat afterward!

For my fruit trees I love Gartenmeister Plant shop. For my Pond plants I love Tom's Nursery and Ponds. Both places are in south hill are of Puyallup.

Jungle Fever Exotics is the coolest. And the sandwich shop across the street is very nice. And if she goes a few more blocks, she will be in the Point Defiance Park gardens, roses, herbs, Japanese, etc, and the beach and the zoo. It's a great destination to spend a day.

I've seen Japanese outside of the park as well. Some of them even have garden centers.
